I'm not quite in FY yet, but I don't have much longer before I join you all here. I just have a quick question.

We are trying to figure out if and when to buy these. The Bumbo Baby Sitter. They have them at BRU. I think it looks like a fine idea. Does anyone here have any thoughts? Thanks for your input. ;)

lots of moms seem to be using them now. I just bought one last week to see if I/the babies like it. They are not quite ready head control-wise for them just yet, but am using it right now for a few minutes at a time as an alternative to tummy time especially since they really are liking to look around now.

We started using ours about 3 months. It was when they started looking around and had head control for several minutes at a time. We actually bought another one to take to the daycare.

We had two & they were great for the short time that they lasted. By 6 months or so, both of our babies were able to get out of them which made them pretty much useless at that point. But they were really handy for the 3 months or so that we used them. See if you can find them second hand because I'm sure none of them get really heavily used. :)

We bought them when the boys were 3-4 months old and they only used it a few times before they figured out how to get out of it.

If you are looking into getting one check out craigslist in you city they are on there all the time in my town.

A lot of moms use them here and I love ours. We didn't get ours until they could hold their heads up. You can use them as highchairs when you travel or they can sit in them and play with their toys. I use them as a bath seat when we travel (don't use that much water in the tub or they will float). Some babies love them and some hate them. Your babies are almost here! Hope you have a safe delievery and look forward to seeing you over here at FY!

IMO, I would save your money!! They seem like a really good concept, but they are just not worth the $. We bought two and they maybe used them 2x each. By the time they had the head control to use them, they much prefered the exersaucer because of all the things to look at and touch. Mine also quickly figured out how to get out of them by arching their backs, it was scary cause they would've landed on their heads. So, just not worth it, IMO!

BTW: My Jake has chunky legs and we had a hard time getting his legs to fit in the Bumbo! :)

We just started using ours with Dax. It's a good alternative to laying him down on his back or tummy time. It's also safer than sitting him up on the couch. I'd recommend it but you don't need to buy them just yet.

I thought they were silly when my DS was little... but I got one for $20 on CL (beats the $40 +tax new!) when he was about 9 months old. He did figure out how to get out of it quickly, but it was only on the floor anyways & we have carpet... just as dangerous as him falling down when he was pushing his toys around! Anyways he will be 2 in a month... & the kid still LOVES sitting in it. Take it hes not huge so he still fits in it... but it comes in very handy when we go out to eat, he hates the high chairs at resturants... & those boosters are SO easy to slide out of. Now that he is bigger he can't arch out of it... he has to use his feet... well on a chair (would have NEVER done it when he was younger) he doesn't have anything to kick off of as leverage... so we can catch him WAY before he gets out. I also got a 2nd one used so I will see how the twins like it... I know my friend used hers with her son for about 3 months before he could get out & then it was used for the floor only.

THOUGH they now have a tray that snaps on so you may be able to use it for a lot longer.

Not something I would pay $40 each for, but for me totally worth the $20 used. My 2yr needs to grow so I don't have to get a 3rd one!!!! BUT if you find one used for $20 or so it might be worth getting one to test out & if you like it get another one... if you don't like it you can always resale it for the $20 you paid!!!

I just asked the same ?? on another parenting forum I belong to. All people said they loved them. So, I e-mailed my mothers of multiples group and got a couple used. I haven't tried it much yet but I think it'll be a good alternative. Never can have enough places to try to keep them happy and entertained!!

I loved them! We used them from just over 3 months until about 6 months. We had one for each girl and we also had the tray that attaches. I found that they liked it better with the tray. I was lucky, I got mine used from another member of our local MOT club.

Amy, I used them from about 3.5 months until 8 months. They are great for feeding them in.

We borrowed one from a friend of ours. I LOVE OURS!!! I use it all the time with my guys. PLUS, the bumbo now has a tray attachment. I use this to put toys and stuff on. It keeps them occupied other than just sitting there. They can be quite pricey, so if you can find one second hand, or borrow one, I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah BRU sells the Bumbo and a look a like made by prince lion heart. GET THE BUMBO. I bought the other one just to have two and the look a like is not as good.

I really loved them but agree that you will only be able to use them for a short time. I feel that it really helped my girls to develop their ability to sit up but who knows. My girls could only handle being in them for short increments (5 minutes or so) at first but before you know it they were able to squirm out of them and it became a little scary for me. However, the one thing that I really loved about them was that I could throw them in the car and when I went to a friends house I could use them as seats to contain them while I fed them. I would say I started using them at 4 months and was able to use them until about 7 months. Now they have one that even has a tray you can attatch to the front (I think it's the Pea Pods or some name like that) but I'm not sure if those are as comfy as the bumbos. They are plastic and I think the bumbo foamy material is more comfortable. My one dd was very chunky and sometimes I think it was a little bit more uncomfortable for her but at least with the foamy material it allows for some movement kwim? Good luck!!

I personally wouldn't recommend it. First they didn't have enough head control then it worked for a little while and then by 6 months, they jumped out. My babes are skinny though so I don't know if a chunky baby would stay in longer. Plus they have the tray now which we didn't have.

we use ours in the morning, they are great for 'stowing' the kids. And Becca likes to sit up, so the Bumbo is perfect. We don't have an exersaucer yet, but we need to get one.

Like everything else, some folks love em, some hate em :)

I have two. Bought them with my AMEX points at BRU. I plan to sell them on Craigslist for $25 each (that's what they go for here). They're in great condition and I still have the boxes, so in the end it basically only costs me $15 a piece. So for that price they were worth it. We use them quite a bit although I have trouble getting my girl out with her chubby legs!

    Hi,

i owned two, purchased the trays for themwhich was critical. We used them for only a short while though as my boys started sitting on their own at 5.5 months.

I would suggest buying used ones if you can -- or just get one - they are expensive and you use them for such a short period of time.

Like many others here, I got mine used from my local MOMs group for $15 each. I would be lost without them. I sit the babies in them to feed them and also for something "different" when they are tired of being on their backs or tummies. My babies are just learning how to sit up on their own, so the Bumbos are still necessary here. I don't have the trays, though I think they would be cool for sitting toys on them. Right now I just scatter toys around their Bumbos and they reach and grab a toy and play with it, etc.

As you can see just by reading this thread: some babies like them and some don't, so I would wait a bit and see if you think you need them and then look for them used.

    Good luck!! :)

Our girls love them. Caitlin will stay in only for 15 minutes tops but Emma will stay longer. They're great when I am trying to make dinner or clean up as they are right there where I can keep an eye on them.
We live in Canada and they are $59.99 here !!! My hubby got them in the U.S.
