Has anyone taken twins to Disney before they were 1?

    Hi.

We're planning a trip to Disney World in July with my dh's family. Our twins will be 8 months old and we also have a 6 year old and 4 year old. Are we crazy for doing this? I think the older 2 are at the perfect age for this trip but I'm not so sure about the twins. I'm wondering if anyone went there with young twins and what your experience was like? Are there things you would do or wouldn't do again? Did you rent a stroller or bring one? Last time we went I thought the strollers were more for children a bit older - more at the walking stage at least. They certainly didn't look like something 8 months old could nap in. Do you agree? Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lisa

We didn't go to Disney until our girls were 3-1/2 but I do have some advice. I would definitely bring your own stroller. The strollers that they offer are for older kids IMO so they would probably be more comfortable in their own stroller. Plus, it would be great to have in case you plan on going to Downtown Disney or even just for hanging out at the hotel. The strollers that you rent there are only for within the parks so once you leave for the day the stroller has to be returned. Also, July is boiling hot down there so make sure that your stroller has good sun protection.

I think that it's great that you're going with family. There are things that your 4 and 6 year olds are going to want to do that the twins won't be able to so there are extra hands to watch them.

I hope that you have a great trip! Enjoy!

We just went to Disney in Dec. when the twins were 10 months old, we also have a 6 year old. It was hard with them, I won't lie. But they did great and we had a great time. It was hard with them being on bottles, have to make them, clean them, and stop and feed them in the park. We did bring our duoglider because I wanted them to be able to nap in the stroller and they did. It was also great to use at the airport and we just checked it at the gate.

It was hard getting on/off the buses with the double stroller and 2 babies. I usually ended up holding both of them because DH had to hold the stroller especially when the bus was packed.

It would have been nice for them to be alittle older and everyone thought we were crazy for going with them, but we had already talked about going at that time and our oldest had never been, we thought we would have one baby at the time.

It was difficult, but doable. It did not spoil our fun, but just took a bit more time.

We did go with other family so my parents kept the twins when we did 2 character meals, other than that we had them with us all the time. They slept in the stroller throughout the day and were so tired at night slept all night, and I was worried because all 5 of us were in one room and at home they all have their own rooms.

It will be nice that DH's family will be there to help out with them. The one thing that was hard is that we had to take turns going on rides/shows with our oldest DD. If one of them was asleep in the stroller one of us stayed with them, because they didn't nap as long in the stroller. I would suggest bringing your own, the ones at the parks are really made for older kids.

Your older kids will have a blast. My 6 year old had the best time and is alredy talking about going back. It was heaven for her. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

We just went last week - on Valentines Day while back home in VT it was the Blizzard of 07 here 3 feet of snow!!! Anyways, it was a blast. My parents came with us to help out with the boys - that was the biggest help of all. Felicia is at the perfect age and LOVED IT more than I can tell you! She got to meet all her fav princesses and even rode the big rollercoasters! There are two play places for little kids in Magic Kingdom and that really helped keep the boys from fussing. They spent most of the time in our jeep tandem stroller (like a duoglide). We brought ours with us but at their age (2) the rented stroller would be fine too. I think if you have enough people to help, bring your stroller for the twins and rent a double for the 4,6 year olds. It is a LOT of walking and I wish we rented the double just for Felicia and the goodies we bought there! ITA with Summer it was PITA to fold the double to put on the train thingies to get into the park. But the rest of the time it was no big deal. We left ours many times at the stroller parking lots (took out all the valuables), and went on every ride we could with the kids.

So I would definitely go as the 4,6 will LOVE IT and the twins will just be along for the ride! I did not have to deal with bottles etc though so that might be another thing to keep in mind!

Have fun!!! I cant wait to go back in 08 when the boys are 3! We will not bring our stroller and just rent a double!

ETA: You can bring in food/water for the kids. So i recommend lots of bottles of water. It will be REALLY HOT AND HUMID there in July and IMHO $2 for a small bottle of water is ridiculous... [IMG]

AND...my boys LOVED the train that went all around the kingdom! We sat and watched that for along time waiting for dh and fel to get back from a rollercoaster ride!

I'm so glad to see your post, because we are going in June with my parents. My twins will be 16 months and I have wondered if we are crazy too! My 3 year old is so excited and we plan to go back when the babies are her age. So anyway I hope we both have fun on our trip!! I am so looking forward to it.

I did not take my girls till they were almost 2. I have to second what someone said about bringing your own stroller, you def do not want to use the ones there. I would recommend if you do not already have them, baby carriers to get on and off rides easier. ALot of the rides you will be able to take the babies on although some might be too loud. There are a few "Baby stations" around the parks (they are listed on the maps) that offer a place to relax and feed your babies. It also has a small area for toddlers to kick back in too. That would be a great place to go to get out of the sun and let them crawl around.

Make sure you bring lots of wipes and snacks. You might want to look into the www.snacktrap.com even though my girls are 4 we still take these on vacation with us. Especially if you are traveling by airplane that way if they drop it there is no spill.

The only thing I find difficult at disney was bringing the big stroller and getting on and off buses. Those busses can get very cramped and manovering with kids , stollers and everything you have purchased throughout the day is very hard.

I also would like to second downtown disney. It is so nice there and great shops and restaurants. Also just taking the monorail around to check out the hotels is fun too.

I would also like to recommend a waterpark for your older ones. Blizzard Beach is awesome and so much fun. It is also a nice escape from the parks for a day. With the older ones I would do a character meal too, there are a few with Mickey and a few with Princesses that are really fun. Also a Pooh Beat one and Playhouse Disney one.

Most of all have fun. We try to just follow the kids lead. If they start getting crabby or tired we take a break and sometimes even go back to the hotel.
