Need help!! Kenna woke up with this rash on her back today and I have no clue what its from. Last night she was complaining of lower back pain and this morning she said ouch to under her shoulder blade.

Here are the pics...anyone have any idea what it could be....

Thanks for any help...I am just clueless as to what it is... She did eat a TON of fruit yesterday (blackberries and raspberries) and we did for for a long run/bike ride in the woods yesterday but thats it..

I don't know. I've never seen something like that. I hope you get it figured out soon!

I'm usually overly cautious so if it was my dd I would bring her into the ped today. If she was actually complaining of back pain last night and then wakes up with this rash on her back, it would alarm me. Better to be safe than sorry.

It looks suspicious to me. I'd take her to the pedi to get it checked out. Being in the "woods" & having a rash after are never good.

My first thought was that she fell and bruised herself...but it probably wouldn't stay red. Since its a localized area, it has most likelyhood of being a contact dermatitis to something that she came in contact with. If the rash appears to be getting worse, she has fever, etc, I would get her in to see ped ASAP.

I don't know what it is. I agree with the pp to go to the pedi today. It could be a bug bite but I would be cautious and take her to the doctor. Let us know what you find out!

Pic 2 sort of reminds me of Poison Ivy, which may be a suspect since you were out in the woods recently. That said, thats a weird place for it to show up. Usually it shows on the peices/parts that touch the plant...like legs & forearms.

That she was complaining of pain yesterday is concerning. I'd probably do a ped visit. Best case, you find out its something thats no worry.

It looks to me like a reaction from a bug bite. I personally have this same type of rash when bitten by a fly or mosquito. Rather than the usually "bump", I get a small bump with a large rashed area around it. I would watch it today, watch her breathing, activity, eating, complaining of hurting/itching, and if it's not better, then take her in.

    Thanks everyone!
I just called the dr we spent all day at the dentist so I didn't get a chance to call. I have just never seen anything like this before. I got scared of Lymes Disease since I just pulled a tick off my other dd last week. But it doesn't look like a bull's eye or anything like that. Its still there and still very red and almost looks like its spreading. The dr should be calling me back soon.
thanks so much for all the advice! Our house also backs to the wood so although she was in a trailor for the bike ride with the screen over it I guess she could still have gotten bitten anywhere!

I know I posted on this already, but I cam eto check if you had any ideas of what it was. I look at the second photo & it almost looks like the rash I had when I had shingles, a kind of herpes zoster virus. Is it possible? Please let us know when you knkow.

Okay so the "moron of the week" award goes to me!! I took her in bc I honestly thought it looked worse than this am....its a brush burn..... I told my dr I was so sorry for wasting her time but I was concerned bc I don't know when she would have hurt herself. I gave her a tub last night and it wasn't there but is there today.....guess she must have done it sometime early this am??? Oh well....the dr was very nice about it and said with all my kids have been through she doesn't blame me for being concerned and bringing them in but still....I felt like such a duma**
Well thanks for the help anyway!!

Well turns out...its a rug burn...how do I know this...bc on the way back from the ER tonight (to explain my day...dh left to go out of town for a week today, Mitchell fell off the bed and landed on his sister and when he came up I thought he knocked a tooth out but half of the inside of his lip was hanging down, so I thought for sure he would need stitches, so at 825pm I grabbed all four kids and went to the ER, thank God they don't put stitches in the mouth unless its exteme and his is bad but not extreme so we got to come home) I was explaining to my friend my crazy day and telling her that I still couldn't figure out how Kenna got a brush burn on her back last night when my 7 yr old (who is the one who pointed the rash out to me) says...oh Mommy I know how that happened...must be when I dragged her back to her room last night when she wouldn't get out of my room....nice...I spent a good part of my day worried about her and at the drs and here it was a rug burn.....UGH...what a day I have had...
As far as what a brush burn is....I actually don't know...the dr at the ER tonight said it looked like a burn from the road....it looks just horrible!!
    Thanks for letting me vent!!
