has anyone gotten out of jury duty because you were breastfeeding?

My concern is if I get picked... is there a chance of getting sequestered? that won't work for us... has this happened to any of you?

i had to serve last year while 7 month pg with my twins. it SUCKED! i had already postponed from the year b4 so couldn't get out of it. the one thing i do remember is that they said if i was a bfing mom i COULD get out of it- so hope that still applies! so much for our civic duty! ha!

That is as good as any excuse I can think of! I hope they let you out. If they don't I would tell them that you will be bringing the babies with you to court!

Yes, twice -- once when older DD was an infant and nursing, and this time when the twins were a few weeks old (as if I could get it together to go anywhere, LOL). Are you an SAHM? In Georgia, if you provide daytime care for a child that is not yet school age, they will postpone it for a couple years, nursing or not.

But, even if you work outside the home, then I'm sure breastfeeding would be taken into account.

I just had to sign an affidavit and mail it in....

Yes, I got out of it by writing my refusal (or whatever it is called) because my girls literally WOULD NOT take a bottle. I told them about all the health benefits from breastfeeding for my preemies, I told them I couldnt afford formula Etc etc etc. They must have chosen someone else because I was never summonsed (sp?)

I just got a summons today too and it says on there that exemption is for " parent not working full time and who has a child under the age of 6" also we are moving to another county this weekend so I also get out of it for that. Thank goodness.

I know a lot of it depends on teh state, some states you can get out of it for being a SAHM and others it doesn't work( like Utah). So I would try to call and see or write it and send it in. Also know that most of the time you don't get picked you just ahve to spend the day waiting to get eliminated.

I got out of it when my girls were 3 months old. I called the courthouse and told them I was exclusively bfing 3 month old twins and they said they needed a note faxed from the doctor saying so. So, I called my doctor and he faxed something over that day.

I wrote in a note saying I was the sole day care provider of my infant twins and older children and that I was nursing. I never heard back but I wrote their birthdates and the name and number of their pediatrician for verification.

I think California had a check box for nursing mothers. I checked it and sent it in and that was that!

I did. I told them I would be happy to come if they didn't mind me bringing my 5 month old twins. They let me out of it! :p

I am summoned for the 28th ... I called the Jury Clerk and she said that it is not sufficient reason for excusal!! WHAT?! A stay-at-home Mom of infant twins who nurses them?! I told her that they do not take bottles and I do not have childcare and would have to bring them with me ... she said that she may be able to postpone it a few months. I told her we are moving to another state in a month (this is true) ... and she said she needed a copy of a lease or mortgage info with the new address and all the pertinent signatures ... and MAYBE she could take care of it for me.

what a pain in the a--!

Good luck to you (and me)!!

I got out of it for being the primary caregiver for my kids.

This is how it is in Texas as well. I got a summons for the day before my c-section and I just checked this option for exemption. Like I was going to go to court the day before giving birth and I was also on bedrest. I have yet to go for jury duty!
