Has Anyone Ever Seen This? I'm So Worried...

At least a couple times a week, my girls' hands and/or feet turn purple, like the circulation is cut off. They are not cold to the touch and they get really purpleish/blue. I called the pedi and they are going on Friday. I have been reluctant to do any research on this, I know it will just freak me out more. Has anyone ever heard of this? TIA!

Are they sick at all? Breathing problems, asthma? Are their hands this way as well?

They are perfectly healthy, to my knowledge. Sometimes it's their hands, sometimes feet...

Have you checked to make sure there is not a hair wrapped around their toe or finger? Just an idea.

Well, I am glad you have an appointment with the ped, even though it could be nothing. Jake has always had mottled looking skin, blotchy purply-looking, especially when he's cold, and I have asked about it before. My ped just says it is an immature circulatory system and he will probably eventually grow out of it, or he could be one of those people that always have it. Good luck at the ped, and let us know what they say. [IMG]

My next door neighbor's son did that too. It is as Becky said. They will outgrow it as they get more mobile.

My Sarah had purple hands & feet (sporadically, like you describe) for most of the first year. It tended to get worse when she was cold. The doctor checked at each regular checkup to make sure her heart sounded OK and also did a check (just with his fingers & the stethoscope) to make sure there wasn't some kind of blockage at her groin. That all checked out clear, so he said not to worry about it and said some kids (and some adults!) just have bad circulation.

It was really weird though -- her feet would be dark purple, but sometimes with bright red spots where (for some random reason) more blood was getting through. This sometimes happened to her hands, too, but not as often. It never seemed to bother her though. And it has almost completely gone away since she's been walking.

I have noticed both of mine having the occasional bluish feet or hands. It never last very long and they are normally nice & pink I mentioned it to the doctor and she said immature circulatory system. Good to get it checked out though, try not to worry until then (easier said than done, I know). [IMG]

My daughter's hands and feet do this. The pedi told me it is an immature circulatory system. The blood is sent to the important parts first, heart, brain...so sometimes the hands and feet get purplish. She said she should outgrow it. Let us know what your pedi says.

I am so glad you posted this! The daycare called me a few weeks ago and said morgan's hands and feet were like this. Freaked me. I rushed over there (of course it was over by the time I got there) and took him to the ped. Doc also told me that it was an immature circulation system. I always wondered if that wasn't just a pat answer they give and it wasn't something underlying.

Good to know others have experienced this too!

My sister just took her daughter in for this exact thing. First she went to the pedi who said she was healthy but made an appiontment with a cardiologist just in case. At that appointment they told her it was totally normal. Some babies just move blood differetly and she would outgrow it. They did a bunch of tests just in case but everything was fine. They said there was nothing to worry about. Hope that helps!

My advice is to NOT do any internet research. You'll end up reading about some disease that totally freaks you out and keeps you worried until friday. Friday will be here soon enough. I am sure everything is fine.

Same here. I talked to the pedi at their 6 month appt. for the same reason you are talking about.

My hands and feet are almost always blotchy and purple, unless it's 100 degrees out! I must have an immature immune system, too LOL..

I'm sure they'll be fine; [IMG] Update us when you can!
