they newest thing is that my boys (one especially) constantly has their hands in their mouths! they suck away and are covered in drool 5 mins after they wake up. they use paci's but they are preferring their hands at the moment. is this a teething thing?

It could be the very beginning of teething!

Yup. I think it's only the beginning. Mine started chewing their fingers a couple weeks ago. If they're not occupied w/ a bottle or paci, then it's chomp-chomp-chomp on the fingers! They can trash a perfectly clean onesie in under five minutes if I forget to put a bib on. Then it only takes 30 minutes to go through the bib to the onesie underneath! Gotta find some plastic-lined bibs this weekend.

Very likely it's teething. I had a friend whose baby wore a bib constantly for a long time because he drooled so much when he was teething.

My girls are doing the same exact thing!! They are thumb suckers now too. They used to like the paci but now they prefer their thumbs. Which I'm actually liking because it puts them back to sleep.

My girls have always preferred their fingers over their pacies. Since they were born, they haven't cared a thing about a paci (we have two of every make and model out there!) and they only wanted their fingers. One girl sucks her right fingers and the other girl sucks her left ones.

I suppose yours could be teething or it can just be what they do for comfort. As I said, mine have done it all their life and they are now over 7 months and not the first tooth has come through.

I'm sorry about all of the drooling. Mine don't do it too bad at all.

It may be teething or they may just like to chomp on their fingers. Mine have been doing it since they were 3 months old and they're 7 months now and no teeth yet. :)

It could be early signs of teething but I think its a developmental thing around 3 months where they "discover" their hands and of course everything goes in their mouth. I think it is the beginning of learning to bring things to their mouth. Just ask around...its amazing how many people's babies started "teething" at 3 months;)
