I am currently at 30 weeks gestation and on partial bed rest - whatever that means! I just can't lift anything or do strenuous stuff because of all the contractions I have been having. My husband suggested I ask my OB for a handicap sticker to make my errands a bit easier for me when I have my son with me. Do you think I would be a bad person if I asked to get one? It sounds like a good idea but I have ALWAYS been that person that parks at the end of the parking lot and walks a ways to get where I am going- I enjoy the exercise! But I have been pretty uncomfortable lately and find it hard to even walk short distances. I know one would just say 'just stay home and rest, let your hubby do the work' but I would like to do SOME stuff still. What do you think!?!

I think if there are errands that you absolutely must do, then ask for the sticker. There is no reason to risk the health of your babies by walking that extra distance!

I think it is a good idea. I never thought about it when I was preg. I did use the electronic cart at the grocery store. My dh, ds or mom was always with me and dropped me off at the door.
Good luck. Ask for it and don't feel bad about it.

my friends just asked me this the other day when I was driving...they were upset that I didn't have one yet. Shame on my friends for using me for a spot near the door...
if you need one, get one...no you're not a bad person. But like someone else stated, if you don't get one, have someone drive you to the door. I know my oldest drives me everywhere I need to go! Never thought I'd like my "baby" driving me!

Defin. get one. You can also stay qualified for one after your babies are born at least for 1 week after vaginal delivery, 2 weeks after a c-section and longer if your babies are in the NICU. At least here in Maine.

Mine was a life save cause I could barley walk 5 feet I was so big an uncomfy.

YES! I wish I would have thought to get one during my pregnancy. It would have made running errands much easier. I think they are temporary, maybe 2 years?

I was offered one a long while back and declined. I felt really good then, NOW???? I would grab it in a heartbeat. but I only have 3 weeks left at the most and I don't go out often so I wouldn't use it.

But if I had 8 weeks left - DEFINITELY!

I am at 30 weeks and just got a handicap sticker and it is great. My problem has been people parking too close to my car so I can't get in (it has happened twice!!) - so I love the handicap spaces as they have so much space.

I would check though how long it will take to process - I am in California and it took a few weeks. Here they are valid for one month after the official due date.

I asked for one because I barely have use of my right leg. Baby A seems to enjoy just keeping her head at my cervix, causing tremendous pressure on both my legs. I asked my doctor and she said she'd never done anything like that because "pregnancy isn't a handicap". Well no kidding, but it's not like I'm asking for a permanent one! I also have a toddler and doing menial things like grocery shopping just about kills me. I'm also concerned about falling on the ice, since I've fallen once already! I'm going to see my high risk doc later this week and will ask him. Any advice?

I will be asking my doctor next week when I see him this week. I have to be helped up the stairs sometimes its so bad! My pubic bone/muscles "down there" hurt so bad that I actually well up from the pain- and it lasts all day and night. It went from almost unbearable to UNBEARABLE very quickly. I don't sleep at night ( I see every hour on the clock through the night). I have a 20 month old son that is into EVERYTHING, and I am scared to think how much worse this can get... sometimes I ask myself.. what did I sign up for!?!? (even though this twin pregnancy was natural). Anyway, my point is, after reading all these replies from these mommies, I am MOST CERTAINLY going to ask my doctor if I can have a handicap sticker. In your case, a high risk doctor may be more willing to hand one out because that is his job, to take care of you and your babies! I wouldn't even hesitate to ask now, I was silly thinking I shouldn't! Best of luck with your little miracles!!!
