I've recently noticed that I'm losing a lot of hair in my brushes and in the shower. Plus my hair feels more fine and limp and dry than ever before in my life. I thought pregnant women were supposed to have the best hair of their lives while pregnant? Mine is the worst it's ever been! Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a sign of trouble??

This happened to me at EXACTLY the same stage. Call the doctor and get some blood work done to check your thyroid. Mine was all but non functioning and I had to take medication to keep it working. It's very common to get a thyroid disease while pregnant and it will need to be monitored afterward. Mine went back to normal after 6 months. I don't know how a non functioning thyroid effects the babies, but it's better safe to know than not.

I have Hypothyroidism and take Synthroid to regulate. My hair WILL NOT grow. It's not so much falling out, but no hair on my body will grow. I haven't shaved my legs in months and they are silky smooth still. The hair on my head isn't growing, I dye my hair normally and I have zero roots. Hasn't grown one bit. Also I was looking forward to silky shiny pregnancy hair and it's dull, lifeless and feels like straw. My TSH (thyroid) levels are normal because of meds but, doc said it could still be affecting it. I'm terrified that all my hair will fall out after birth!!!!

I had this when I was pregnant with my son. I thought I was going to lose all my hair. Supposidly with boys you lose hair and it's dry and stringy. With girls its thicker than ever and full of body. I now have lots of 3 inch hair over my head from where I lost so much with my son. It was kinda funny looking when it started growing back after he was born and I had all this short hair sticking up all over my head (expecially the front) even the hair dressers mentioned it.

Thank you all - i'm going to call the doctor about it. Hopefully it's nothing major - either a pregnancy induced thryoid problem OR the fact I'm having boys... either way I'm not happy about it! I'm getting a haircut next week too - maybe that will help.. ugh!!

I think it's relatively normal to have hair loss either during or after pregnancy. With pregnancy #1, it came about 6 mos postpartum. 2nd pregnancy, during. This pregnancy I still have my hair, but it's not growing very fast.

I think we can chalk this up to another fine contribution from our hormones, and as usual, the effects are magnified w/ multiples. <_<

It WILL grow back but it stinks in the meantime. One plus (for me, at least)...I hardly ever had to shave my legs during the 3st trimester of my pregnancy w/ DS...which is good because it's not like I could reach them to shave anyway. :p

I lost lots of hair while pregnant with my twins. There was tons on my shirt each day. I have really thick hair to begin with. It stopped once the babies were born.

I was also having the same issue. I told my Dr about it, and he told me not worry about it. But he increased my iron intake for other reasons and I found that with the extra iron I was not losing as much hair.

Thanks...maybe i'll ask about adding an iron supplement. I'm worried I'm going to be bald by the time I deliver in 3 months!

my hair started falling out around 25w too, my doc told me that the hormones of pregnancy throw off our grow/loss cycles (what ever that means?) i am on synthroid for a pre-existing thyroid condition, but my levels have been consistent thru out the pregnancy. i also have a bit of preg induced anemia and take extra iron for that. the good news is that at 33w, i've noticed i'm losing less.
