    Hi,

Vanessa is 2 and 4 months and she has long, thick, wavy hair - right now it's shoulder length. The issue is that she won't let anyone touch it. We usually try to do a pony tail with the bangs so it doesn't come in her eyes when she plays but each morning it's a struggle to put her hair together and most times it looks weird because she screams and she fights it. I think we only did pigtails with her 2-3 times but it's really difficutl to keep her in place for 2 different things with her hair. I am asking her if she wants short hair like her brother's, she says no, she loves playing with her hair and she is flipping it from side to side and she seems to like having long hair. I made her brush my hair, hoping that would help her realize it's not painful, but it didn't make a difference. She keeps screaming AW AW AW each time I try to brush her hair or put a hairclip in it and I have to chase her around the house and tackle her to do something to her hair. She is OK with having her hair washed.
The reality is I don't like people touching my hair too much either, but I was never this bad.

Please let me know what would you do in such a situation. I don't want to cut her hair really short, she has beautiful hair, plus it's growing so fast, bangs would be hard to maintain and she hates haricuts also. I don't want her to get hurt if she can't see what she's doing because her hair got in her face while playing either. I am hoping it's just a phase, but she has been like this since the beginning.

Would a doll with long hair help? If your daughter was like this at this age, what helped her get over it?

    Thank you,

    Monica

U can twist her hair (like little chinese girls)Divide her hair into 2 from upfront to back, 1 twist each side (divide each side hair into 3 , fwist from top to the end and tie up). That way the front hair is twisted as well. I used to tie Michelle's hair into 2 pigtails. But she didn't like it. I understand because I tie my hair up all day long. And it hurts and very uncomfortable. But since I twist her hair, she is very happy, also her hair is less tangled. its usually take me like 2 mins to brush and twist her hair. U can brush her hair right after you wash her hair. Gl!

I went through somewhat similar issues with my girls. They did not like things put in their hair and would pull out anything that was in there. Luckily if I put an elastic in it was too tight for them to just pull out. Now they don't mind their hair getting done but they always complain about it getting brushed "OW that hurts! OW STOP!" even when I am barely doing anything. I try to explain to them that hair must be brushed every day because if it doesn't, it will get knots and then it will have to be cut off. They don't want that so they usually sit there and let me do it but they make the biggest fuss. Hopefully they grow out of it. If I were you, maybe cut her hair a little shorter (not boy short, but maybe so it isn't so long it gets in the way all the time) then it wouldn't be as big a deal to leave it down. I think my girls had shoulder length hair at that age and it was really cute with their curls.

Thanks for the ideas guys. W101ttd I looked up hair twisting on you tube and it looks nice, does it take a long time to do? I want to try it. Do you put elastics at the ends or hair clips?

Nicole, Vanessa's hair is shoulder length and I am trying to put an elastic that holds together the bangs part on top of her head, but she won't let me do it so most times, it's crooked, or hairs are coming out, just because she's fighting it.

Yesterday I played a funny Youtube Video for her and I let her watch that while I brushed her hair and I did a ponytail and it worked. She tried to fight it when she saw the brush, but she was so distracted by the video she ignored me for the most part:). I think I will do that when I brush her hair for the time being.

I use very thin elastics. After you do it 4-5 times, it will only take like 2 mins for the whole process. I usually comb and twist her hair in the morning. Her hair stays twisted nicely all day long (even after she gets up from nap) And she never complain that it's too tight or hurts,.. Like she always does with pig tails. Gl!

I did keep my girls' hair short for this very reason. They would fight with me every morning and it just wasn't worth it. I gave them bangs and then chin length hair, so that way it looked okay with just a little bit of brushing.

Now that they're a little older they let me fix it so I am letting them grow it longer.

Of course my two still have baby-like fine, thin, silky hair. They don't have thick beautiful hair or anything so it was no big deal to me to cut it.

U can practice twisting your hair first so you can do it fast enough. After couple less painful brushing times, she won't fight back that bad. I promise it's super easy.

Michelle loves her long hair. Her bro has hair cut everymonth. I always ask her if she wants a haircut. She always says NO. I only cut her bang. She still has baby fine hair. So her hair on the back is so easy to get tangled up and so hard to brush through. But with twisted hair, it's never tangled up again. And brushing her hair is a piece if cake. At Least try before you decide to cut her hair. Gl
