So I've heard it's technically safe to dye our hair ... but has anyone done it? I've gone 22 weeks now, but I'm going on vacation (with my camera-happy in-laws <_< ) and I have major roots going on. Of course I don't want to do anything that could harm the boys.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Allison

I believe that the dye may or may NOT take due to the hormones.. thats why some women don't get it colored because of wasting the money..

But I got mine done at like 6 weeks and it did fine..

I get my highlights done, they grow out fast but take just fine for me.

I waited until I was out of my first trimester......and after that I have been having my hair cut/colored every 6-8 weeks. Ask your OB for peace of mind, but I colored my hair in all three prengnancies :)

I have always dyed my hair during pregnancy. This time around I'm having to do it about every 4 weeks because it's growing so fast.

I'm the same- I've had highlights through all three of my pregnancies.

Thanks, ladies! I figured it would be fine, but wanted to check. Of course, I'm pretty sure that nobody is going to be looking at my hair if my in-laws decide to snap pictures of me in my swimsuit, LOL! The belly kind of draws the eye downward. ;)

Highlights are OK because they don't touch the scalp, but an overall color isn't the best thing to do if you can avoid it. My doctor told me that the dye DOES enter the bloodstream -- whether or not it affects the babies is still up in the air, but for me, the risk of harming the babies was more important than my vanity!

If you are going to do it though, you definitely shouldn't do it first trimester (this doesn't apply to you in particular, just a general warning)!

Highlights are fine. I waited until I was out of the first tri, and then got my hair highlighted.

I miss highlights! At the tender age of 32, the dreaded greys have been coming in, so I have been getting my hair colored to a dark brown (from my natural black) but I decided to wait to have it done again until after the babies are born. I can't wait to have my day of beauty!

ask the hairdresser for natural high and low lights-it wil 'blend" with your natural colour-i would wait to do all over colour-because our hair changes in pg-u might not get the colour u want-

My Peri said hi-lights were okay in the 2nd trimester but not in the 1st or 3rd and no overall dye!

I would wait on anything that touches the scalp as well. You can't be absolutely sure it won't reach the babies.
