Hi everyone, The ladies have always had hair but now its less like baby penguine fur and more like real hair! I don't want to cut it because it needs to fill in (especially their little bald spots in the back), but for Meara her bangs are getting so long soon they will be in her face. I'm totally paranoid though about putting anything in their hair for fear they will take it out, put it in their mouth and choke. My SIL put a hair elastic in Meara's hair while on vacation and then I freaked because it was gone and I didn't know where it was and Meara was all fussy crying and I thought she swallowed it. Turned out DH took it out so I spent 10 minutes freaking out frantically searching for a clear elastic for nothing!

Anyway, back to my point... for those of you with girls who put things in their hair, how do you keep them from pulling it out? Or do you just buy things that are too big for them to accidentally swallow? When they were really little I bought these little bows from BRU that had velcro, but 1) they are small, 2) they didn't stay in, and 3) now the girls will definitely be interested in playing with them if they fall out.

    Thanks! -Leighann

Everyone keeps pushign me to put clips in their hair but I am so afraid of the choking hazard I still won't do it!

I'd be interested in seeing the replies!

I personally don't put anything in DD hair now. She will just pull it out and eat it. I don't think it is worth the choking hazard to make her look cute. Some kids don't bother their hair, but mine does instantly.

Are you growing out her bangs?

I was going to because the rest of her hair really needs to catch up. From birth until about a month ago she had a mohawk. It was very rock star! Now the sides are growing, but the top is definitely longer and it has body. I think she is going to have really nice hair when she gets older. But if her bangs get in her eyes, I guess I'll have to trim them because I can't see putting clips in this young. I don't know how I will handle trimming her hair since I can't bring myself to cut their nails (I file them because I'm so worried about accidentally hurting them). Maybe I'll make DH do it. He's cut their toenails before.. while I was in the other room cringing.

I put bows in my girls' hair ALL the time. Sure, they touch them, occasionally pull them out and try to eat them, BUT I monitor them very closely and divert their attention if they get too fixated on them. I bought bows from an online site and I have to say I LOVE them! She makes them with felt in the middle so they stay put in any amount of hair. I have purchased about 10-12 sets of bows so far.

I just starting putting things in my girls' hair in the last couple of weeks. I actually received a bunch of the non-slip korker bows in the mail today that I ordered off of ebay. They are mini for infants, but are big enough they would be tough to shove in their mouths. I never let the babies sleep in them either and try to keep a good eye on them when they are wearing them.

I had to quit putting in any ponytails or clips b/c dd will always pull it out. One day I forgot to take out the little rubber band when I put her down for nap & when I went to check on her, she had it wrapped around her finger & the finger was turning purple!! That was the last ponytail. If we go out, I'll put a big bow or headband (something too big to choke on) but she always pulls those out, too. Then her hair ends up looking worse b/c it's just sticking up all on it's own.

I just checked out her website & those are just adorable! Do you know what the difference is between a "no slip" clip & an "alligator clip"?

I've been making tons of bows for lilly with those alligator type clips. I only put them in when we are going out, and I take them off when we get home. I too worry about her pulling it and and chewing on it, etc. When we're out and about though, I don't worry because she's too distracted with the goings on, plus she's always in sight...

The bows ARE adorable and the clips are also a good size. I don't know the difference between the two because I have always ordered the no slip.

I had some great headbands when Gillian was a baby. They felt like they were made of really soft pantyhose. Anyway, they had a little spot on the front where you could slip a bow (I think the alligator kind) on to the headband. I had the bands in black, white & cream plus tons of bows. It was fun, but she didn't wear them everyday, and never to sleep in. I got the headbands and bows at 2 different children's resale stores - Kid to Kid & .... I can't remeber the name of the second one.... it was in Texas!!

My understanding is an alligator clip is the thing women use to hold curlers in - you pinch the end together and the other end opens like an alligator mouth. Non-slip means they line the inside of the alligator clip with ribbon, felt, or something like that to hold onto baby fine hair better.
