    just back from L/D .......
and hopefully ... this will be my ONLY trip until the babies get here.

I was up and down all night, with a backache .... this is nothing new. Sometime early this morning, not sure what time, I started having cramps. No contractions, but just cramping in my lower belly.

So, I looked in my twins books, and OF course, both of these can be signs of pre-term labor. Got up, took a shower, called in to work, and called my OB's office. They told me to come in, just to be on the safe side.

So .. got in, gave a urine, and got all hooked up to the monitors, etc. OF Course, by the time I got there, the cramping had subsided. They picked up both babies on the monitor, and checked me for contractions/dilations. I was a fingertip open, and about 50% effaced. I has some discomfort while I was there, but never saw the monitor register a blip!

I ended up getting yet another u/s, to check cervical length .. it looked fine as well, no funneling, length is great, etc.

So, got sent home ... told to drink lots of fluids, rest, etc.

I feel better since I went in, but a bit 'on edge' now .... worried about work, potential bed rest, etc.

Anyone else been in this spot?? Any advice??

Well I hope that it is your last trip until they are born, but the first time I went in a couple nurses joked I would be in a few times before they are born… and I have been back twice… so just drink and rest and know you’re doing all you can… sometimes a trip to L&D is what you need, so don’t feel bad or hesitate to go…
FYI I’m not bed ridden and last Friday my contractions were 2 min apart… so even scary stuff can turn out ok with a trip to L&D

    Lost my first post!

Dianna, I went to the L/D when I was 25 weeks pregnant. It was due to the same symptoms you described, plus I was having braxton hicks contractions. They told me it was due to not enough water consumption, so I had to up my drinking, and it did get better. :hug99: "Try" not to worry about it too much and just take it one day at a time. Just take it easy, drink lots of water and {as much as possible} don't stress over it. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful and healthy. :hug99:

hang in there! And like Elizabeth said, I too was told by the nurses to expect several false alarms and trips in to L&D-- and they were right. I think I was in about 3-4 times before the real event took place. Keep your feet elevated as much as possible to keep their weight off your cervix and drink until you can't drink anymore, and then drink some more! ;) I ended up on bed rest at 27 weeks and then delivered at almost 36-- it was a LONG time hanging out on the couch, but I totally believed it helped me keep those babies cooking- and that's what mattered!!! Just keep that in mind and you'll be fine!!! :hug99:

    Hi,

I made a trip to L&D about two weeks ago. I am going on 26 weeks. I woke up feeling very crampy and let it go for a few hours before I called my doc. They told me to go to the hospital to get checked out. When I got there, they hooked me up to the monitor to check for contractions and to watch the babies heartbeats. They didn't see any contractions but did say that my uterus showed a little irritability. My cervix was closed and the fFn test came back negative - what a relief! I was there for about four hours and then sent home on modified bedrest until my doc saw me a week later. Everything has been fine since. I was also told to drink lots of water and to take it easy.

    Thanks mommas!
I'm just stressed out, worrying about work, etc.

I'll be going in to work tomorrow, but I will insist on being in triage, and come Monday, I am going to talk to my manager about doing shorter shifts.

I'm glad to hear everything was okay, and good for you for playing it safe. For me, I feel like stress really contributed to my contractions. Mine started at 25 weeks and that's when I had my first (and only, so far) trip to L and D. Luckily my contractions never have caused cervical changes, but that's something to really keep an eye on at this early stage in the game. It was hard for me to rest like they said to when I was on my feet all day at work, so I cut back around 24 weeks and stopped completely at 29. I have had contractions ever since 25 weeks and didn't have any cervical changes til I was 36 weeks, so I was very lucky. On the other hand, some women with so many contractions are experiencing preterm labor. You really can't be too safe. My OB started to check my cervix via ultrasound every two weeks, and did FFNs every two weeks for a while as well to make sure we were okay, and we were. It's nice to have the reassurance, but still, take your contractions seriously and don't hesitate to call or go in. I felt kind of silly when I first went in but everyone there assured me it's better to be safe than sorry.

Hope it was your last trip too. Very stressful. But you did the right thing by going in. Sending hugs your way.
