LONG...I thought having an US with twins was long, but this one was almost as long!

I guess babe was very cozy with its head in my pelvis and its face all smooshed in there, the tech had a hard time getting a good face shot. This resulted in a lot of digging and twisting, finally I emptied my bladder and babe turned over just enough for us to get a tiny peek at the face.
However, the tech said I will likely have to come back for another US because she couldn't get a profile image.

I had hoped I would have a "generous" tech who would at least offer me the opportunity to "see for myself" when it came to finding out the gender. This is my 1st baby that I have had in Ontario, but in Sask, with my twins...the techs really tried to help us find out. They didn't come right out and say "It's a boy!" (We could only find out one gender, my dd was shy) but they would say things like "Well, if you look here...it does kindda look like it might be a boy"...or something like that.
I have spent a great deal of time studying US online and my own when we were pregnant with the twins, that I think if I had been given a moment to look, we likely would know. My poor kids were really looking forward to finding out what the baby is, as I have a boy and girl betting against eachother as to what THEY want the baby to be.

I am hoping that they got SOME info, which they can pass on to my midwife. I was hoping to know before we went for a shopping trip to NY...I hope I don't have to wait till my next appointment on Jan 6th!

Sorry your baby was being uncooperative. I'm betting girl!! :winking: glad it went well though.

There are some really strict rules in some areas about sharing that info. I know that in MB the rural ones are REALLY strict about holding back. I wasn't even given hints at later u/s with my twins in Brandon. They did put it in the report tho so I could have asked my dr. But even when I hinted at the u/s the techs just shook their heads.

Maybe the anticipation of the next 20wks will up the ante with the bets between the sibs! LOL :)

Wow things are really different up there. Here, the first question the tech always asks is 'do you want to know the gender' and normally it's answered as soon as she moves to measure the femur bone. Sorry you don't know the gender yet. That's a bummer.

I really hated having my US done...maybe it was just the fact I had it done at the Hospital, but it seemed so clinical and she didn't talk to me the whole time and I couldn't see the screen. My kids and my husband had to sit out in the hall till she was done her measuring and then then could come in for a really quick peek...
In Sask I had a video made of one of our US...free of charge, we just brought a VHS tape with us. If I have to go back, I will likely try not to go back to the Hospital...they have a way of zapping the fun right out of it!
My sisters went to a lab that has now moved to London and actually I went to the lab for the 1st US and the guy there is really nice and he gave my sisters a TON of pictures and was very helpful - one sister wanted to find out the gender and was able to find it out at the US. We got 2 pictures - both of the face. That's it. I think I will go back to that lab if I have to go again. This one was disappointing.

At least I have a 3D US booked for Jan 30th....

I may also e-mail my midwife and ask her if she can let us know before our next appt on Jan 6th.

Your experience sounds a lot like mine with this one. He had his head buried in my pelvis as well so it took forever and the tech was being taught new coding by a more experienced tech so they weren't telling me much at all and I only got two blurry pics. My big ultrasound was at 18 weeks and the first thing they asked me was if I wanted to know the gender, I said no. They kept referring to the baby as a he/him so I ended up going back and asking if it really was a boy and they told me it was. That seems so odd to me that they wouldn't tell you the gender, I'd have been ticked if I ha wanted to know and they wouldn't tell! I hope you next ultrasound experience is better.

At my hospital, they will tell you only if 90% sure but won't write it down if you say you don't want to know. The 3D/4D ultrasounds for gender assessment are about $100 and if you really want to know you may have to spring for that--I'm sure they'll have one in London or KW.

Here's one I found for you.

    Wow!
What's the reasoning behind holding info in like that? Liability of some sort?
Here I can have ultrasounds on demand, the screen is not an issue because the doctor has one or two televisions positioned around the room so that everyone present can see with out straining their necks and they burn a DVD of the entire thing and give it to you. If the doctor (no techs) performing the ultrasound is not your doctor, they give you the full report to take personally to your doctor, unsealed so you can read it in the mean time.

I am going for a 3D/4D US on Jan 30th - I'll be about 27 weeks then, and I'd like to find out BEFORE then!!

I did send an e-mail to my midwife. I am just hoping that they DO reschedule another one. I just told her that I was really looking forward to including the twins as much as possible in all the US's and some of the appointments so they could see and hear their new baby brother or sister. I have never experienced US' where daddy has to sit outside the room while they do all the measuring. In Saskatoon, my husband was in the room the whole time for all if not most of my US's. Even for my very 1st one, which was in internal US at 8 weeks, he was there. This time, for my 1st US, he couldn't even be with me till after the Tech has taken all the info. We got the scan early this time, to see if it was twins again...it's only one, but I missed sharing that moment of revelation with my husband, like I got to do the 1st time! The baby is healthy, good heart beat, everything is in order, yet I am treated like my baby has serious issues that no one wants to talk about!! It's crazy!

All the tech said to me was "are you ok laying on your back?" "Turn towards me or away from me" "Sorry I have to try to get a head shot" "Heart rate is 135, which is in the normal range."

    That's about it.

My husband and kids came in and the screen was turned towards me and we got to see maybe 2 minutes of the baby, who was laying on its back...I would have liked to have watched it move a bit, give the kids a chance to see their baby a bit longer.

IF the tech was able to see any gender indication, my Midwife will get that info within 5 business days and normally I would have to wait till my next appt to find out. That is Jan 6th.
We were hoping to share the news with our families at Christmas.

We'll see what my midwife has to say about things.

I don't get why they are so secretive either. Weird. But, I'm glad everything seemingly looked OK. Hope you get your answer soon!
