Well my babies went in for their appointment yesterday and they are doing great, according to the nurses. I'm not sure why I'm feel the way I do. I guess I just hoped that they would be hitting their milestones abit faster. Right now they are right on for their adjusted age, but part of me wants them to do more as they are almost 6 months old.

They did say that they wouldn't catch up yet, so I'm hopeful. Has anyone felt this way, and is their something I can do to help them along?

I guess it goes back to the guilt I feel for not being able to carry them a little longer. I was admitted into the hospital for some spotting and contractions 5 days before they were born. All the nurses kept saying was "Keep them in longer and they'll do better" My contractions came and went but I kept dilating.

I feel so guilty about my body not being able to hold onto them longer.

 I know exactly how you feel. I was there too. But let me tell you they will catch up and they will do it quick. Smiling took the longest to come but it got better from there. When we went to our 15 month WBV the Ped said the magic words..."looks like they are right on track for 15 months and we no longer need to give them that extra 2 months if need be." Voila! Hang in there. They will get there.

You have no reason to feel guilty . You did everything you could. The check up sounds really good to me!

Not only do I remember that feeling, I remember writing a similar post to yours. The response that made me feel better said essentially this:

If at 4 months old they are testing at 2 months behind, and then at 6 months old they are testing at 2 months behind, then they have gone through 2 months worth of development in 2 months time. This is a good thing.

If they were to completely catch up between 6 months and 8 months, they would need to do 4 months worth of developing in only 2 months, and that's not going to happen.

Mine were 3 months early, and tested consistently at 3-5 months behind in developmental areas. Then at approximately 26 months they all of a sudden started testing at 3-5 months AHEAD in all areas.

So, give it time. If they are not slipping farther behind, then everything is good.

    Thanks ladies....

I know I'm being silly. They are smiling, giggling, cooing. Have great head control, rollover from front to back. I guess because I saw her checking other things that they weren't doing yet, it made me feel bad.

They are healthy and really that's all that matters, right?

    Thanks again...

I feel the exact same way at times. It's totally normal! It's a mom thing - we'll always feel guilty about something. Hey that's great that they are doing all that! They're doing great!
