Had 3 hours of Contractions Last Night

I am so glad to be sitting here at my keyboard and not in the hospital. I really thought I was headed there last night. I woke up at 1:40 AM and went to the bathroom. Definitely felt like I was cramping badly at the time. Went back to bed and the contractions started immediately. I had them for 3 hours straight! I kept track of them on my own for the first hour and then decided to wake up DH. Lot of good that did me. I said, "I think I'm in labor." To which he replied, "What does that mean?" Duh! I said, "I've been having contractions for an hour now." And he said, "Oh (sympathetic sounding)." Then he reached back with his hand (had his back to me) and patted me twice and almost immediately started snoring again. I can't believe he doesn't get more excited about these things! I mean seriously if the situation were reversed I would have shot straight up and started timing contractions. Right? Wouldn't you? Through the course of those 3 hours he woke up maybe 3 times to give me another pat and tell me that he would start timing them for me. And then he would immediately fall back to sleep. I finally gave up on him and went and got my iPhone and started looking for an application to help me time them. I found a great one, by the way (called iContraction and cost 99 cents). Easy as it can be - you push the large Start button when a contraction starts and then push Stop when it stops. It keeps track of the date and time of each contraction, the length of the contraction, and the length of time between contractions. By the time I got it downloaded and started using it I only had about 3 more contractions and then they finally quit and I was able to go back to sleep.

I am so happy that things quit! I know it is probably somewhat safe to have these babies now, but I really want to wait another week (or two). They are probably still in the 5lb range right now. I would like them to have the chance to gain another half a pound and mature a bit more. You know?

The whole time I was thinking, "This can't happen tonight because...

    A. I don't want these babies to share a birthday with DH's dad and DH's brother's wife. There are just too many birthdays (5) in his family this week!

    B. I want to meet Harrison Ford tomorrow! (more on that below)

    C. The babies aren't ready yet. They need at least another week.

Do you like my train of thought? Especially part B, right? I know. What a random thought. Harrison Ford is going to be at my parent's farm today to begin filming a new movie. It is such a crazy thing that my family farm was scouted as a location for part of this movie and I guess I am kind of excited for it. I can't believe I was so worried about meeting him. I am such an idiot! These babies are so much more important than that. LOL.

I should probably go put my feet up. Will get a little more breakfast and then see if I can rest a bit. I am pretty tired. I guess I should call my OB and report the contractions too.

If you read through all of that, I thank you for listening to me. It is so nice to have a place to vent my feelings/worries/emotions. You are all so great! :grouphug:

HA HA...that is how my mind works all the time, from one thought to another!

I am happy that they stopped but I would let your MD know...just incase!

Get some rest and good luck with your remaining weeks!

I think my thought process would've been something very similar to that! Your DH did exactly what mine would've too. Once he passes out for the night, a MAC truck doesnt fully wake him up. Hope you get some rest and enjoy the day!

I'm glad things slowed down for you. Hopefully the babies will stay put a week or two longer like you'd like.
I can completely understand wanting to see Harrison Ford! Will you actually get to meet him?

glad things have settled down. I know that would happen to me if I stayed on my feet too long that day or didn't drink enough water. You body is probably telling you to go to your parent's house and put you feet up and watch Harrison ford for a while. Have fun!!

LOL! When I was pregnant w/ DS, my water broke at 2am. DH confesses that when I woke him up and told him, his reaction was, "So does that mean I have to get up?" He's a normally wonderful, supportive husband, mind you. At least he didn't say it out loud. And me? My first thought was, "Crap! I didn't finish doing the laundry yesterday!" So off I went to finish my laundry. :pardon:

Thanks for the tip on the iApp. That sounds PERFECT!! Off to download I go!

I'm glad that you didn't have the babies last night... it would be a shame to miss Mr. Ford.  I'm glad they stopped, and I hope you are relaxing right now while watching the sexy Harrison Ford filming his movie. That is pretty cool.

Yes, I am hoping I get to meet him. I should at least have the chance to watch him as they film the movie. Whether or not he is receptive to meeting people? I guess I will find out. If I can get a picture with him, I will post it here for your entertainment. :D

Thanks for the fun comments. I am glad to know I am not the only one who has a DH that could sleep through a hurricane. This is our 3rd pregnancy so you would think the guy would know what I mean when I say I am in labor.

My OB said to stay hydrated, lay down as much as possible, and to keep my bladder empty. They also said that if the contractions come on again they will probably not try to stop them at this point. They said if I they 10 minutes apart and lasting one hour I need to go to labor and delivery. I am glad I called because I remember the rule being 5 minutes apart with my singletons. I had no idea they would want me to come in at 10 mins apart!

How cool about Harrison Ford! I remember when I actually went into what I thought was labor I sat on the phone for 4 hours with my best friend(till 2:30 am) timing them. When I went to wake my husband up he said"If we go and your not in labor Im going to be mad...I need sleep If Im going to work tomorrow" the funny part is..he doesn't remember saying it.It took me almost an hour to get him up.I was so angry I told him"If I have these babies in the bathroom floor Im going to be mad.He normally is great. He was heavily sleeping I guess.Luckily with my other two I went into labor while he was still awake.
Im glad everything stopped and you can still cook those babies!!!

Update - I did get a picture with Harrison Ford yesterday. Was all set to post it here for you to view and then was told that we are under contract not to post any public photos until the movie is released. Darn! Sorry about that. I will have to come back and post it in a few months.

I told DH yesterday the things he said and did when I had woken him up about the labor pains. He laughed his head off. Had no idea he had said any of it. On a bright note it did motivate him to finally go shopping for and purchase a new video camera yesterday. I am laughing that I should fake pains each night so that he gets something else crossed off his list before these babies arrive!
