They are afraid of the GRASS! ! They were terrified of the grass when we went outside to play today. We finally had some good weather, and I wanted to take them out to explore the yard. We moved here in the spring last year, and they were too sick to go out most of last summer, so we played alot on the porch, and inside. So I guess today is basically the first time they have had a "grass" experience.

We took them out, and they immediately started to shake as soon as their feet touched the ground. Then came the crying and bawling and screaming. Their feet stayed planted in the same spot and they wouldn't move. It was funny, but sad at the same time, because they couldn't play.

Dh said that it was good...at least they wouldn't run in the oppisite directions :D ! I am taking them back out when it warms up here again, and hopefully they won't be so afraid.

Anyone else kiddos afraid of the GRASS???

Mine didn't like it at first, but they get used to it. Put shoes on them - that might help.

Mine were also scared of grass in the begining. They just have to get used to it. One ting that I di was take a big blanket or sleeping bag and lay it out on the grass. Brought out some toys and put them on it. So they could get used to the grass slowly and we culd still play outside. They would go to the edge of the blanket and touch the grass every now and then and eventually they got used to it to get off the blanket.

Perfectly normal! My dd was at 18 months that summer. She would practically climb up me like a tree if I tried to put her down on grass :p By the next summer she was fine! Ditto for the boys last summer. This summer I am sure they will LOVE IT :D

Kelly was terrified of grass too. It took her a full summer to get used to it. She didn't like it even if she had sandals on. We had a full summer of her being afraid and saying "Up! Up!" everytime she was near grass!

My girls were afraid of the grass last summer. They turned 1 in July and were still crawling. We would put a blanket out for them to play on and when they got to the ends of it and felt the grass they pulled their little hands away so fast that you would have thought somthing had burned them. Now that they are walking they are running all over the grass with no problems. I am curious to see what hapens when it really warms up here and I let them out on the grass with no shoes on.

I remember mine treading very lightly on it for the first little while too. They'll get used to it. At least you HAVE grass. We just got a freak snowstorm...so much for Spring around here!

My twins are not happy with grass either. My oldest was afraid of sand and still has a little problem with it and he is almost 3. A lot of the parks around here have wood chips or rubber.

LOL! that is funny! My oldest had the fear of sand for the longest time. He wouldn't even walk on the sidewalk if sand had blown over it a little. He still is leary of parks that have sand, but he loves the beach (though he walks as slow as a snail over it!)

My guys were afraid of it too, it took them a little bit to overcome their fear. I don't think it was a fear for us, as much as a texture issue. They have had all sorts of oral feeding issues in the past, and the OT/Speech therapist told us it was a common thing for "sensitve" kids to not like to walk on the grass. They also don't like walking on sand (well, they do now, but don't like it if their sandles are on, they want to be bare feet). Time will take care of it . . .

Mine we leary of grass at first to. It was actually funny, but they did not want to stand on it. Putting shoes on helped and then after awhile there were no issues.

That is too funny! Nicholas used to be afraid of it, a long time ago, he'd just stand there and cry and shake. Now I can't keep him off the grass or the mud! It will pass!!
