So, my little Roman likes to grunt when he's working on a poop. (which is constantly--he has at least 4-5 poopy diapers every day, sometimes more like 8-10). Most of the time he's sleeping and grunting, or eating and grunting, but it seems like he is just always grunting.

Is this something I should worry about, or is it normal? Joel doesn't do it, but he poops just as often, so I started wondering...and no way in this world am I going to google "grunting and defecation" or "grunting and pooping" or anything of that nature!

I had no idea how loud little babies were or that they grunted until we brought the girls home. I remember that first night DH and I freaking out because Meara was grunting. She was fine. As long as his BMs aren't too hard (grunting/straining because he's constipated) he's probably fine. But if there is any question, call the pedi (its what they get paid the big bucks for). Congrats on your babies! -Leighann

Totally normal! :good: My ds was a grunter as well. He was a very LOUD grunter but by 4 months all the grunting had stopped. Don't google it, some odd stuff might come up and have you worried for no reason. :hug99:

Both of my girls grunt when they're working on a poop. It's totally normal! It's pretty funny too, they have no shame & grunt no matter who's around, it's totally cute.

Both of my are/were grunters -- and their little faces would get red like cherries! LOL. One has just finally stoped grunting (we no call him our "stelth pooher")-- the other one STILL grunts sometimes!! Totally normal!

My boys have just finally stopped grunting- it was the loudest sound EVER! They did it regardless of whether or not they were pooping- it was any time they were awake or waking up and if one started grunting, the other was sure to follow- at night it was like dueling grunters! It is totally normal, though!

Totally normal. Mine were big grunters in the first months. We had them sleeping in a crib next to our bed, and I wound up wearing earplugs, or else the grunting would wake me up! I still remember DD's first night home. I'd lie there dozing off for maybe 10 min, then *grrrrunt*, then doze off again, then *grunt grunt grunt" and see her lifting her little swaddled legs up in the air...

Big grunters here too ! I was worried about this too in the first few weeks, especially when they were sleeping. But I am pretty sure it is very normal!

Yup, I had a big grunter too. My son made more noise than i thought was possible. I have no idea where the term "sleep like a baby" came from. Because to me that means barely sleeping, grunting non-stop, and making noises that I still have no idea where they came from. It's so normal. My DS still grunts sometimes when he poops.

My DD used to grunt a lot -- it was actually more like a grunt/roar -- we called her the tigress, LOL.

They do outgrow it, and replace it with babble and all kinds of other interesting noises! :)

Both of mine grunt...it is like they are talking to each other:) It is kind of annoying when you are trying to sleep!

My Benny grunts constantly! When he's finished a meal (I always worry that he's gorged himself and is uncomfortably full..), when he's gassy, when he needs to poop (which is all the time, really!). AJ grunts when he's pooping or stretching, but not nearly as much as Benny. ...and neither DH nor I have any recollection of our DD grunting... we joke that it must be a "boy thing!"
