The boys have reached the stage where they have become grunters, and it's making me crazy. i looked it up and found out that doing so is normal and that it's because they have not yet learned how much force is needed to push the food through thier systems and are therefore overdoing it. At first i thought it was cute but now its becoming a problem. i mean, come on....it's breastmilk, not a t-bone steak theyrre digesting. Now they are doing it alot and the sounds are waking up the other twin. Not a good thing when it's midnight and im facing yet another sleepless night with them. <_<

Anyone else's babies doing this? Have you found a way to soothe it or make it stop?

My girls did it soooooo bad. It helps if you can seperate them til they outgrow it. We put one baby in the pack n play downstairs and I slept down there on the couch, and kept the other baby upstairs in the nursery where Daddy was next door. It only lasted about three weeks, so hang in there! (Wait'll they learn to click their tongues. Yay. <_< )

When my babies started grunting it was their first sign of reflux. I would keep an eye out for any other symptoms like refusing to feed, crying on the bottle or breast, and just generally cranky after a feeding.

We had to get a white noise machine for our bedroom to get any sleep because they were so loud.

ugh the grunting. That's when I had to start sleeping with earplugs. I found no solution, they just will grow out of it. I actually wish I had taped it because I almost forget what it sounds like. I just remember thinking I had animals in the crib. My husband and I would lay there and listen to them grunt, then see legs go in the air followed by farts. Oh man it was funny. Gassy babies!

were they born early? grunting is really common in preemies. one of the explanations i've heard is that their brains don't achieve deep sleep for the first few months and they sleep in this semi-conscious state that results in a lot of vocalizations. and as PP mentioned it could be your first sign of reflux. do they sleep with their heads tipped back?

nothing you can do but get a white noise machine and wait it out, unfortunately.

ditto on the white noise machine. it was a lifesaver, of course, now the babies are addicted to the sound of waves and can't sleep without it, just like mommy!

Our little Maxwell did that for the first two months. It has gotten so much better now that he is 3 and 1/2 months old, but he still does it from time to time. We also recorded the sound of our hairdryer on a cd and have that on repeat all night long. His grunting doesn't wake Piper either and I really think the cd helps with that. Good luck!!

My ds did this too. Pedi said it was the digestion thing too, however he also has reflux. He did grow out of it, I want to say by 3 months.

    GL!!

I agree with pp, get a white noice machine..........it still helps them sleep through noises.

No, the boys were not early. Had them at 38.2 weeks and were 6.14 and 8.4 pounds. The grunting isnt just at night, it's a constant thing, all day and night, every day. Havent had any issues with reflux and they eat ALOT. im just hoping they will grow out of it soon. <_<
