Have any of you noticed whether your babies have growth spurts according to their actual age or adjusted age?
Mine are 3 months but wondering if a growth spurt is still 4 weeks away because they were born at 36 weeks-
    Thanks!

I noticed mine at their adjusted age most of the time.

Adjusted age no matter what. A baby can only grow according to date of conception regardless of when he/she was born. See what I'm saying? So.. you adjust for things like this.

While I agree your statement about growing according to date of conception I think all babies are different in terms of when they reach certain milestones.

Thanks pp-so I can expect my babies growth spurt to be when they are 4mo actual but when they are 3mo adjusted???

Yes, that can be true. However, with my boys it was hard to notice a growth spurt as they got older because they were still eating all day long and waking at night no matter what.

So then, at what age do you stop doing adjusted age? Mine were born at 37+4, the ped never mentioned anything about doing adjusted age.

Although you are very close to full term for twins and I am going on the assumption that there was no NICU time (not that it changes anything) you are still 2.5 weeks early. So your babies really are 1.5 weeks old--they lost 2.5 weeks gestation. In the early days, that could mean nothing and it could mean that they take a bit longer to click for STTN or going longer for feeds or longer colic. You can technically add 2.5 weeks to every milestone to give them a chance to meet the milestone if needed. But just to give you some perspective, mine were 8 weeks early and at their 15 month check up, they were up to speed in talking and walking and no real need to adjust for anything at the moment. Sorry for the longwinded answer.

Like Rachel, it was hard for me to tell when the girls were going thru growth spurts in the early days because they were eating around the clock. I guess I always kept it in the back of my mind what their adjusted age was for these things, sttn, and meeting milestones.. that way if they did something before I could say "Look they are geniuses!" or "You aren't even supposed to be born yet, how can you smile?!!"

I did find that the super fussy newborn person started around 12 weeks instead of 6 (which makes sense since their adjusted age was 6 weeks).

As for when to stop adjusting, most preemies catch up by 2 years old. The only time this is an issue for us is for the growth charts at the doctor's office. They'll chart their growth for adjusted age until 2, but everything else we go by chronological age.
