I don't know if this is the time when they go through a growth spurt, but for the past three days their naps are off and they seem to be eating more. The pedi said I could give them solids at 40 ounces or 5 months whatever comes first. They are well over 40 ounces now, but I really wanted to hold off on solids as long as possible because of allergies. They normally nap for 2.5 to 3 hours in the morning and now it's only 40 minutes. I've given them more in their bottles but they seem hungry every two hours again (I normally feed them every 3 to 3.5 hours). Should I just give them food or wait a week and see if it gets better? I need their naps!

It sounds like a growth spurt to me. It will probably last a few days then suddenly stop and go back. Im also going through the same with the nap thing, its a nightmare. My DD has hardly slept all day and wails like a cat, it´s horrible to listen to! She´s not in pain or hungry, she just doesnt want/cant sleep. Mine are on 4 bottles a day every 4 hours. DS eats 7oz and DD eats between 6-7oz each time. They have cereal in 3 of the bottles and go 12 hours at night. Do you give yours cereal at all? How much do yours eat at each feed? I ask as ours are more or less the same age.

I have never given them cereal, I remember other babies choking when we put cereal into the bottle, so I am not doing that this time. My babies do generally sleep 10-12 hours each night, and they drink 8oz at every feeding 5 to 6 per day.

I think you can either give them an extra bottle or more ounces in each bottle or offer cereal if you would like since your Ped gave you the go-ahead. Just as you stated, I would hesistate to put cereal into a bottle if its not for a medical reason. They need to learn to take the solids from a spoon when ready. When we started cereal we did it in the evening and most of the time I only fed one on one day and then the next day the other until the got really proficient at it. GL with your decision.

Keep feeding them when they're hungry, it won't last.

On a side note, it's around that age that mine stopped taking their long naps also. Since then I get 1.5 hour when I'm lucky.

My 2 sons are going through a growthspurt this week too. Their sleep schedul is all messed up and they normally eat 3-4 oz of formula and are eating 5-6 oz. My wife and i are not getting any sleep. How long does a growth spurt like this last? We are on day 4. My boys are 10 weeks old.

Hi there, I put just one spoon of cereal in their bottles (as instructed by the pedi) and they´re drinking about 7oz at each feed. DS sometimes drinks 8oz. I don´t increase the cereal amount if they eat more. I´m not sure what a y-nipple is (I´m based in Spain) but the teats I have just started using have a cross cut in them so the hole opens up bigger. DD does well with it but I think it may be a bit slow for DS, who´s bigger.

I give mine cereal as the pedi told me to start at 4.5 months. Wow! Yours eat 5-6 bottles a day of 8oz - thats amazing! How much do yours weigh? I´m just curious, hope you dont mind me asking :)
