growth spurt, teething or illness?

I'm starting to get concerned about ds.....the last 2 weeks or so, he just seems so tired. If we went anywhere in the morning, he'd fall asleep in his carseat. At 1st I thought he must be hitting another growth spurt......seems like they're always extra tired when that happens.

The last couple days, he's barely up in the morning & then he's asking to go to sleep! Now, he also was up during the night a bit.....2 nights in a row he tossed & turned around 3am. So I thought he's tired b/c he didn't sleep well. But he's also been extremely whiny, clingy & doesn't want to play as much. This morning after breakfast he wanted to lay down on my bed while dd was asking him, "You want to play with me?" Broke my heart! He finally did get up & is playing now.

Do kids go through quiet phases? Last night his cousin came over & they played well......so I wonder if he's just not sleeping well? His poor little eyes have been puffy & red, too.

I guess I have something else to add: in the last 3 days he's been drinking water/juice like crazy!! 2 nights ago at my mil's house I saw him fill his water cup twice (he can reach the water there) so I asked dh to follow him b/c I thought for sure he had to have dumped it somewhere to go through 2 cups of water that fast......nope, he had drunk them! And then he drank 3 more after that!!
