Well, I'm 22 weeks today and had a growth scan for my ID boys and things weren't as great as I hoped. At my last growth scan last month baby A was 7 oz and baby B was 6 oz. This time baby A was 1 lb 2 oz and baby B was 12 oz. One is in the 50-75 percentile and the other in the 10-25th percentile but was in the middle of that bottom tier. The Dr. said that their fluid was great and there were no signs of TTTS. I guess I'm so new to all this I don't know what it all means. I'm going to up my protein shakes to 2 a day and lay a lot on my left and drink more water than I even had but I guess I need someone who's been through this that I should be panicked yet. The Dr. told me not to be panicked but concerned. They have me coming back in 3 weeks for another growth u/s because they want to take in account for the u/s errors if there were in. Really I guess I just needed to vent to people who have been through this! Thanks everybody!

Hang in there. Do the best you can and pray hard for the little guy. You can only "wait it out" over the next few weeks. Keep us posted.

We found out at 24 weeks that I was carrying twins, already at that point the girls had a big difference due to 2 vessel cord. We had three dr's in the high risk ward tell us Jessy would never make it. They were born at 34 weeks 1 day due to lack of growth. They had almost a 2 lbs weight difference. Jessy spent 3 weeks in the NICU(Jazz was in for 15 days). She is still tiny in weight at 23 1/2 lbs at 2, height wise she is pretty normal at 34 inches. Jaz is a giant at 28 1/2 lbs and 36 inches. Jessy had developmental delays early on but has caught up and is mentally farther along than her twin.

Kepp on the left and keep drinking not only the shakes but lots of water too

    Hi,

I received almost the same news at my 22 week ultrasound a year ago and now I have two very healthy and growing nine month old girls. At the 18 week ultrasound my girls were the same size, but they started to diverge after that. Baby A was alway smaller than Baby B, and the size difference got bigger week by week. They are identical, but we had no signs of TTTS and there were no other visible problems. I had a lot of growth ultrasounds and some extra doctors appointments, but looking back, there was really nothing done that made any difference - it just caused me a lot of stress and worry. I had a C-section at 34 weeks 2 days because the size difference continued to grow and by then Baby A was measuring about 25% smaller. At birth, my smaller girl was 3 lbs 11 oz and my bigger one was 4 lbs 9 oz. They were both 100% healthy and never needed oxygen or anything else. They spent a few weeks in the special care nursery eating and growing. During that time we learned that Baby A's umbilical cord had attached to the placenta near the edge so she probably wasn't getting as many nutrients as her sister. Now, nine months later, she's doing great and is over 17 pounds. Her sister is about 3/4 of a pound bigger and usually hits milestones first, but not always. It doesn't appear that there are any long-term effects of the growth restrition.

I've written all of this down so that you know that there's hope and a very real chance that you'll have two healthy babies, who might be on the small size... but then again, they might hit a big growth spurt in the next few weeks. Finally, there's nothing you can do except rest, lie on your left side, drink lots of water, and eat lots of good quality protein. Worrying will only hurt the babies because it elevates your blood pressure and makes your body work harder! Good luck...

I went back and looked in my journal. My weights were very similar to yours. At 18 weeks baby a was 9oz. baby b was 8 oz. By 22 weeks Baby A was 1 lb 1 oz Baby B 13 oz. I worried too because there was now a 24% weight difference and we had been in stage two of TTTS the entire pregnancy (due to fluid fluctuation, abnormal dopplers and growth discordance) yet gave birth to two healthy girls at 36 weeks 1 day. By then we had barely any signs of ttts other than increasing growth difference and both had slowed down in growth. Baby A weighed 5lbs 5.2oz Baby B was 4lbs even. Both left the hospital with us and no health problems. Keep drinking those nasty shakes and eat a ton of protein. I don't know if that's what kept us stable but something did. It is a worry but a great chance everything will turn out wonderful. Pm me for a link to the journal if you want it goes pretty much week by week what was done and weights etc. Good luck!

I went and pulled my u/s book (yes I have enough pics to fill a book). At 26 weeks they were 1lb 8oz (jazz) and 1lb 3oz(Jess). That is the first weights we have. Both of the girls cords were attached on the side rather than where they were supposed to be and Jessy's cord was 2 vessel.

    27 weeks:
    Baby A 2lbs 7oz
    Baby B 1lb 5oz
    28 weeks:
    Baby A 2lbs 10oz
    Baby B 1lbs 8oz
    30 weeks:
    Baby A 3lbs 4oz
    Baby B 1lb 14oz
    33 weeks:
    Baby A 4lbs 5oz
    Baby B 2lbs 4oz

I have weights for every week but didn't want to bore you. They were born at 34 weeks and a day weighing 4lbs 9oz and 2lbs 13oz
