    Hi all!

I'm not sure if you remember me but I posted about 9 weeks back about my wife who's expecting b/g twins and had a short cervix of 2.0 cm at 22 weeks. Well, her cervix is now hovering around 1.0cm and we're not heading into 31 weeks on Tuesday...... the babies are still hanging in there.

Here's the kicker..... at our last ultrasound they found that our boy (twin b) is not growing as well as his sister (3lbs and 2lbs 8oz), they checked the blood flow from the placentas and found our boys slightly abnormal so they're going to watch him closely. I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else and what the outcomes where. We came this far, her cervix seems to be holding out so we're really hoping to get to at least 34 weeks. Any information you have would be great! Thanks for your time!

We had IUGR and restricted blood flow at one point in all my pregnancies, so i have been there. With my twins, madison (baby A) had restricted flow and IUGR noted at 22 or 24 weeks, we started NSTs and BPPs twice a week at that point and i did strict bedrest and drank 3 Boost High Protiens a day. Within a few weeks I did 3xs a week appts. The next visit flow was better but she was getting further and further behind in growth. i carried them to 32+3 due to preeclampsia.
It could be any # of things that cause this, one can be the placement of the umbilical cord, one could be off to the side causing IUGR.

Just make sure shes doing her kick counts [IMG]

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It's scary but we're hoping the cord issues are resloved or at least stable at our next appointment this week! Thanks again!

I have a 2 vessel cord baby(Jessy) and both girls cords were not attatched where they should have been. They were 3 weeks different from the time we found out we were having twins till the day they were born(found out at 26 weeks). I was on bedrest with the girls for 8 weeks and drank Ensure three times a day. Jessy only gained 3 ounces a week for those 8 weeks. We were closely monitored(twice a week BPP{NST IMO don't work well for twins the girls always kicked the monitors off or moved to much}) to make sure she didn't have negative cord flow. We had the shots(steriods) at 28 weeks and delivered at 34 weeks to prevent possible neg flow in her cord(they determined that she would do better out than in). I really suggest a c-section as they can get the babies out quicker and it will be less stressful on the babies. The girls were born weighing 4lbs 9oz and 2lbs 13oz(IUGR baby). They were off oxygen with in hours of birth and each spent time in the NICU(17 and 25 days respectively) to grow and mature. Jessy was born with a pulmonary stentosis(heart murmur) but that is her only problem so far. Now at 16 months the girls are pretty healthy, Jessy still has the heart murmur and has just started walking(she may have something wrong with her leg as she swings it when she walks but that is for the orthopedic dr to tell us next month) and Jazz has always been great. Jessy is 20lbs 30inches and Jazz is 25lbs 33 inches. PM me with any questions I'll be glad to answer them!

I had a very similar situation as the PP's - found out I was having twins at 20 weeks and at that time, there was a slight discordance. The discrodance continued to grow and I had all the weekly dopplers to monitior the poor blood flow to baby B. As said before, we needed to avoid the negative blood flow. If that were to happen, they would take them immediatley. I ended up having the girls at 35 weeks (we, too, were scared all along that things would change and they would have to do a c section at 24 weeks...). The girls were born weighing 5#4oz and 2#12.5oz (IUGR baby). At 2 months, they are doing so good! It is amazing what they can do for these tiny babies! Elsa, the IUGR baby, has more than doubled her birth weight. She is at 6#6oz and has been very healthy! She was in the NICU for 3 weeks - all along we were told she was one of the healthiest there, she just needed to get bigger! Follow all the advice from the doc's and make sure Mom is counting kicks and taking care of herself. Getting beyond 30 weeks is a great milestone - we felt a ton of relief after that.

ALso - I'm certainly not an expert, but the discordance you have is not that large. I have heard of other babies being about that different in weight and there was little concern. And keep in mind that those weights can really be off. I was told my babies were 6#6oz and 3#6oz right before I delivered - and you can see from the weights mentioned above that they were off quite a bit.

    Keep us posted!
