Went to the doctor today with the twins for their 6 mth chk-up. They will be 7 mths next week; we are running behind. Well my girl 'fatty addie' is in the 85th percentile...but my little Macoy is only in the 15-20th percentile. He has only grown an 1/2 of an inch since his last visit on 7/24 and gained 1 lb. The doc said I should bring him back in a mth to be re-evaulated. He was the smaller of the two when he was born but we thought he'd catch up. Our families (both sides) are TALL people ... could he be short or could somthing be wrong .. or is it too early to tell anything?? I'm so worried about him. I've had this feeling about him since he was born that he would always 'NEED' me more so than my other 3 kids..that he would require more of Mommy...am I just thinking too much?? I feel something is wrong...anyone else had this happen with their little ones..the feeling and the growth issue? thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the important thing is that he IS growing, even if it's not as fast as you like. Remember, for every baby in the 85%percentile, there has to be one in the 15%percentile! I've always heard there's no worry until you get below 5%, or over 95%. And you know, babies just go through phases. I know my son wouldn't nurse near as much once he started noticing the world around him.....just way too much to see to bother with eating! That happened about right at the age yours are now. It'll be OK :)

How much does he weigh vs his sister? (i think it was sister? :) )

Mine have always been 2 lbs apart. Sarah only weighs 12.8 lbs as of 9/5. Kaylee weighs 14.8. I think Sarah was in the 15th% or something like that. I was very concerned about her growth. And I have felt the same way as you about her needing me more b/c she was smaller & etc... That is true sometimes, but she is starting to be very independant lately. :) My Ped reassured me that she was doing great! You can check their growth on my signature. I have their progress posted.

Hey..thanks for the response. Addie is 18 lbs and 26 1/2 in in length while Macoy is 16 lbs, 4 oz and 26 inces in length. They were born on March 7th. You're right..he'll be fine. I just worry about him...plus he is the 7th boy in the family and she is the first girl on both sides so she s spoiled while I feel he gets left out sometimes. I'm just being a mommy I'm sure :)

I would try not to worry but I know that is easier said than done. My one guy is about the same size as your and he is almost 11 months old! Sometimes they just take their good ole time and grow when they feel like it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about right now, but keep an eye on it. He is growing and gaining weight, so that is good. I always think you should trust your Mommy instinct. You know him best. But as long as he is growing and gaining, which he is, I wouldn't worry quite yet. He may have just had a slow few months and Addie could have hit a growth spurt.

Is he still in the same percentiles as he's always been? Unless his growth curve starts flattening out, I wouldn't worry too much... Like pps said, keep an eye on it, but everything's probably just fine. :)

We've had the same concerns with our little boy. He is just a tall skinny baby and doesn't gain as fast as his sister. My ped isn't concerned as long as he stays on his growth curve....but I know exactly how you feel--it's impossible NOT to worry and be concerned. Let us know how it goes next month!

We had our girls check-up at 7 months and my little Emma was in the 10th percentile..... I wouldn't worry to much, like someone else said as long as they are healthy and growing....

Just wanted to chime in too, that at 15 months Emilie was only 18 lbs, but her small size does not stop her one bit. :)

MIne are close in age and their weight gain has slowed some in the last couple of months but my ped wasn't concerned. They're still growing along THEIR growth curve.

At their 6 month appointment which they were 6 months 3 weeks...Lucas was 14 lbs(5-10%) and Jonas was 14 1/2 lbs(10%) so I think you're fine. Just make sure he is eating well, drinking well, wetting well, developmentally doing well and take him in for his follow up. I'd say no worries for now.

I totally ignore those percentiles. I think they are silly, but that's just me.

My Ella was only 14 lbs 5 oz at her 6 month appt so I'm sure she was very low. As long as they are GROWING they are fine!

At almost 7 months, my identical boys were 13 lbs (even) and 13 lbs, 4 oz. That's less than the 3rd percentile, but the doctor said as long as they are following a good curve (i.e. gaining weight) there is nothing to be concerned about. They were born healthy at 36 weeks, 4 lbs 11oz and 5lbs, 6 oz.

I try not to pay attention TOO much to the charts, even though it is a bit scary when our boys are always below the 3rd percentile...but they are healthy, strong and developmentally on track!

    Try not to worry!
