    1. Was it effective for gas/colic, teething and hiccups as it claims?

    2. How is it given?

    3. Can it be bought only online or is it available in some stores?

    Thanks so much in advance!

    Hi,

I had heard about Gripe Water and actually had seen it at Toys R Us one day and bought it. We had taken the twins on vacation to Pensacola Beach last month and Natalie was screaming her head off one night and nothing seemed to work, a bottle, gas drops etc. So I pulled out the newly bought Gripe water. The thing that scared me was that I never checked with the pedi about giving her this but my husband (who was getting sick of the screaming) said just do it! Also, I was shocked at the dosage it recommended. It just seemed like a LOT. But I gave her about half of the recommended dosage (it is given with a syringe type thingy) and after a while she did calm down. Was it the gripe water or just the gas drops kicking in. I dunno. I have not used it since and was going to ask my pedi at their next appt if she thinks it's ok to use it. The gripe water was our last hope that night so we just tried it. Did it work...I am not sure. But I would really like to know just how safe it really is and what exactly it is supposed to cure. Sorry I wasn't much help...but just wanted to share my experience with it.

We used it when the twins were about 4 months old and had back to back jags of non-stop fussiness for about 2 weeks. The gripe water literally put an end to it (in combination with gas drops) within two days. Maybe just coincedence - maybe not? I too was worried about the dosage, but I ended up giving the full amount with no ill-effects that were apparent. I didn't ever have to use it again. :)

i had heard my dad tell me that my mom used to give us gripe water when we were young but he wasnt exactly sure for what and at what age. my aunt said its for teething. finally i read a post here on gripe water and i decided to try. we got woodwords gripe water (the brand reccomended by everyone- family and here in the forum). we started when our DDs were 1 and half mo old. started with 1 tsp (half the dose) twice daily and have moved them to the full dose.
had asked the pedi who said its ayurvedic and totally safe to give and DDs seem to like it too. and yes it does seem to help to a certain extent with gas.

    hope this helps.

My pedi said that while there is no medical evidence that it actually works, she was fine with us trying it. It definitely stops the girls hiccups immediately, i use a half dose. It really didn't help with much else...

Gripe water has been around for decades. My mom used it with her children, and I have used it for my twins. It is mainly fennel and ginger...think of it as ginger ale for babies. It helps calm their little tummies when dealing with gas. To me it works faster than the gas drops, but no harm in using the two together, but at lower dosages.

It worked on hiccups for us. Like a charm! :)
Either in a bottle or a syringe.

    Fussiness? Not really.

LOVE IT LOVE IT...We've always used gripe water, there is one with alcohol and one without I have to say the one with alcohol works better.

My girls even now come to me if they have hiccups and ask for gripe, and it does get rid of them. Or if they complain their tummy's sore, it does help.

I'm from England originally and everyone over there seems to use it. Although I do buy it from the grocery store here is canada, so pretty common here too I guess.

We used the Baby Bliss gripe water and it helped us. Here is their website. You can purchase it online or we also found it at Longs drugs store.

I purchased Gripe Water at the grocery store (I'm in Dallas, went to Kroger). We tried it when my grandsons were here for a visit when they were five weeks old. It soothed their crying jags almost immediately, but I don't know if they were gassy or what. I don't know that my DD is continuing to use it or not, she was also a bit concerned about the dosage as it does seem like a lot.

We have used Gripe Water many times for both our DD and DS and it has worked in helping them with their gas problems. We have never given the full dose we tend to give half of what they recommend but it still works. :good:

gripe water never worked for the twins gas but it worked like a charm for hiccups - we used the Baby's Bliss also...you can get it at colicshop.com

We also LOVE it!! It does seem to make Ashley MORE gassy though ( I have heard this from others ) works wonders on Alyssa though!! We bought 3 bottles of Kolik brand off of Ebay of all places straight from Canada... my understanding is it originated in Canada. This stuff smells worse than the baby's bliss but seems to work better with smaller doses! (it was also cheaper than baby's bliss $25 for 3- 5oz bottles... $15 for one 4oz bottle of bliss!!) It is just ginger water and the pedi says it is fine if it works for you... ginger is just a stomack soothe as is peppermint. I should also mention that our girls are on Zantac for reflux.
