Great Solution For Shirts That Are Too Short!

So today I went to the thrift store & found a cute Motherhood shorts romper for $4.25... The only down side is that it is a SHORTS ROMPER. But I loved the fabric, neckline & the fact that it had ties to adjust the top. This would also work great with older pants rompers that have a cute print or dresses that pull up WAY to short in front & look silly.

So I bought it & brought it home just to chop it up!!! I removed & sewed up the pockets & then cut off the bottom shorts part! I then tried it on & decided how long I wanted it in the front & the back & cut it appropriately. I am currently just about 29 weeks... so I left it long enough that I should be able to wear it for quite a bit longer! Then I justed used a rolled hem on the bottom edge (a traditional hem would look great, or bias tape. But a rolled hem is MUCH faster since my serger does it.)

Anyways it turned out SUPER cute & fits great! The best part is that it fits my top & the bottom of my tummy isn't hanging out!!!!

I'm not super experienced at sewing, just basic stuff. I don't like homemade maternity stuff cause 90% of the time it looks just that! It was a great inbetween... it was cheap, only took me about 10 minutes & solved one of my big issues!

I will post pics in a few, I have to go take them!!! I was just to excited. I know that alot of you, especially those not on bedrest have the same problem!

That does sound really cute -- but dude, you are talking to a sewing idiot, LOL. I would love to see a pic, though! I am down to three long T-shirts that I bought at Target, and that's about it....

    BEFORE PICS...

I was in a hurry & cut it apart before taking pics!!1 BUT trusty old ebay I found a pic of the same romper!!! The last pic is of a different romper, but it better shows you what the shorts looked like...

    AFTER PICS....

That came out sooo cute! And what a great idea -- I never would have thought of it.

I don't have a serger -- I barely know what one does -- but I do have a good sewing machine that sits and collects dust. You could just fold up the bottom and do a basic hem on this?

I may have to keep my eyes out for rompers or dresses....thanks for the tip!

a regular sewing machine would work just fine!!!! you have the idea... you can can do a basic hem... or bias tape is also a good solution. My serger just has this fancy stitch that is super easy & a little less work.

But honestly if you can get a romper or dress for a few $ its worth a little time to get something that actually FITS

I wasn't sure if it would actually work... but I figured for $4.25 it was worth a try!!!! The only part I hadn't thought about was it having pockets, but those were easy enough to remove! I knew people wouldn't be able to picture it... thats why I hurried up & took some pictures.

Very cute! I am 35 weeks, and I refuse to buy anything else for this pregnancy--but nothing fits! I have ONE shirt that covers my entire belly. I have bascially decided to wear it every day until these kids come out. If I had a sewing machine and/or sewing skills....that could have made all the difference!! You should sell them!

The only prob is they are a bit of a pain to find around here!!!! I can't wait to do some more garage selling :D hopefully I can get some more for cheap. Thats why I tried it in the first place...its nearly impossible to find long shirts (especially since I am VERY busty when not prego) & I refuse to pay $10-$15 for the 'cheap' ones in larger sizes that hand off my narrow shoulders!

I completely uinderstand that one. Now I know what to look for when I hit the yard sales! Thanks for the idea. My DH will be happy to set up the sewing machine, I'm sure. He'll be happy to get his shirts back! :bow2:

I HAVE RESORTED TO WEARING BABY DOLL DRESSES (VERY POPULAR RIGHT NOW) AS SHIRTS. I GOT A LOT OF GREAT DEALS AT AN OLD NAVY OUTLET. :)
