Graduating from Baby Bjorns?

My husband and I often take an evening walk with the twins in Baby Bjorns. But they are approaching the weight limit for those and I am what I might do next.

We have a stroller of course, but it is much more intimate to walk with them in the Baby Bjorns. We can point out flowers, and plants and animals and such and get up pretty close Most of the time, in the stroller, the children just seem very "blah" -- and not particularly engaged in their environment.

So I am thinking about what to do next???? One of those backpack like things for carrying or something else that I'm not familiar with.

    Advice please!

    Thanks.

DEUTER backpacks are very comfortable and work for a range of heights, but they aren't cheap. We have one from our first daughter and will probably get another when our twins outgrow the Bjorns.

We have one backpack and will probably get another one. If you can find them used, they are typicall in great shape. They are a great alternative and don't seem so heavy to tote kids around.

I am in LOVE with my Ergo carrier! They are pricy, but they go up to 40 lbs... You can wear it on your hip, back or front! i couldn't wear a bjorn because it put too much stress on my back... The ergo does not do this! Get one, it is AWESOME!!! Oh, and for the fun of it I put my 40 lb daughter in it on my back and it was easy!!!

The next step might be for all four of you to take a walk together! You will no doubt discover new objects you've never noticed before, like small pebbles, ants, grass growing through the cracks of the sidewalk, and anything else that's close to the ground. Sounds like a really fun family activity!

Their own 2 feet. You might not get very far, but will see all kinds of interesting things :)

We never used the Bjorns much anyway, but we did start taking walks with the girls this spring (they were over 2 at the time, though). It took us 45 minutes to get around the block, but it was entertaining as long as DH and I managed to have no sense of urgency about it.

Other than that, we mostly use the stroller, so I can't help much. We do also have backpacks for hiking (DH has a Deuter, which is awesome -- I have a Kelty, which is fine), but I find it pretty uncomfortable to carry a child on my back, so I don't do it if I have a choice.

A wagon might also be an option -- you would not be physically as close to the twins, and it's not quite as comfortable for the parent, but they are able to look around more than they can in a stroller.

Ditto, we love walking this way. They are like little ducklings following me down our sidewalk stopping to point out all sorts of things. I think it is a great way to increase thier confidence. It is amazing to see how proud they are when walking along picking things up to show mommy etc...

We have the Ergo as well but haven't yet used it with the twins, I used it with my DS when I was pregnant until I couldn't stand all the weight anymore. You can wear it front, back or hip so it's pretty flexible but it would be pricey to have to get 2 of them.

Kind of like the Ergo is the Beco. We have one and it's great. We tend to use the stroller because I am usually alone with them, but there have been many instances when the Beco has been PERFECT!

We also have a Mei Tai (most are homemade) and I love it, too... but it takes a little practice to learn how to get it on. DP still can't (not that she has really tried.... ). You can find demo clips on YouTube.

This is one of hundreds of small companies that make them!
