This is what it recommends for age/weight etc...

    Manufacturer's Age: 3 - 10 years

    Child Weight Min: 30 lbs

    Child Weight Max: 100 lbs

I don't see anything about height. Does anyone know if there is a height requirement for these types of seats.

My twins are almost 3 years old and they are over 30lbs. They'll be 3 in July.

I've always heard 4 years and 40 lbs for booster seats. I would check carseatdata.org - HTH :)

It's 38 inches. That's the one that I'm looking to get as well, but my girls are only 36 inches right now. I have heard really good things about it.

These are the boosters that we have and our twins are turning 3 in May. In Pennsylvania, you don't have to be 4 and 40. You have to be in a Federally approved car seat OR booster seat that is appropriate for your childs age/height/weight due to the mfg instructions. The turbo boosters are as you say...and since I have really big twins (they are the size of 4 year olds..)it was the best choice for us to switch. They were getting too big for their 5 point harness car seats that we had bought them when they were babies (which becomes dangerous if they are too big). We hadn't thought ahead way back then and bought them the 5 points that go up to like 60 lbs. My 9 year old DD was always so small, I didn't think the twins would be on the bigger size.

We love these boosters. I will have to check out my instructions for them for the height. I know it was either 36 or 38 inches.

We switched to those just before my guys turned three for the same reason as Regina. The 4 year and 40 lbs. is for a backless booster. We love those seats and have been using them for almost 3 years now.

seriously all of you have 2-3 year olds in seat belt only boosters? The 30 lbs is the bare minimum for those seats and if you ask the experts very unsafe in most situations. And Booster seats go up to 58 or so inches as my 8 year old is still in her britax booster as she is only 49 inches if that! There are some inexpensive 5pt carseats that go up to 55-65 lbs and 49-53 inches. The graco nautilus and fisher price safe embrace are about $150 each compared to the Britax Marathon which is 250 or so each. My boys are in Marathons and the fisher price seats and will stay in 5pt harnesses as long as possible. they are 'tech' weigh enough for booster but no way mature enough to keep them on right. 40 lbs and 40 inches is the bare minimum for putting your child in a seat belt only booster seat. please see www.car-seat.org for tons of information on this subject!

Depending upon what carseat they are in now, they could tech still be rear facing too which is MUCh safer for young babies. Check t he sides, some are 30 or 33 lbs or height restrictions as well.

Please do your research to keep our kids as safe as possible while riding in motorized vehicles.

    just my few cents... :umm:

Do these Graco Turbo Booster Safe Seats just take the regular seat belt? My kids are big and we have to switch here before too long as they are fractions away from the max height/weight on our Roundabouts. I was hoping to eek a little more use out of our Roundabouts first.

I did do my research and talked to the twins pedi and read studies online, and rated car seats, booster seats, talked to friends with kids of varying ages, etc. I did not take my decision lightly. We knew we had to make a switch because the twins were too big for the 5 point harnesses that we bought them when they were babies. Like I said, we got 5 points that were up to 40 lbs and 38 inches tall. Both of my twins tops of their heads were over the back of the seats, and they are both just pushing 40 lbs. From what I was told, read, etc...the age of 4 is a recommendation and is really all relative. The age is recommended as more of a maturity level so that kids understand that they cannot unbuckle the seat belts. I guess that in general, the maturity level of a 4 year old is better to understand danger, etc.

My twins have never tried to unbuckle their seatbelts while we were moving..so we have been very lucky in that respect. As far as their size. If you didn't know them, you would think that they are 4...it is height and weight that is really the determining factor in boosters/car seats. Mine both meet the height and weight requirements for the high back boosters.

We would have had to go out and buy two more carseats again that had bigger size requirements, and they could've been out of those in no time, so we decided to buy something that we knew that they could use pretty much until they don't have to use anything at all (our boosters also turn into the no back ones for when they get older).

My boys JUST started unclipping their carseats while we were on vacaction in FL. So just wait! Yours twinks are younger than mine. I totally recommend the new graco nautilus as it goes up to 65 lbs and 53 inches with a harness. Even if you have HUGE kids, it should fit them until 5ish and it turns into a booster as well. HTH How can you NOT afford to keep your kids safe in the car?

My kids tried unclipping their belts a few times when we first switched over. A quick stop on the side of the road pretty much put a stop to it. Mine are very safe in the car even though it is not the seat that you would recommend--we have followed the height and weight recommendations. It is great to try and get your point across, but antagonizing those who have another method really isn't going to help your cause.

i have been trying to figure out about what to get next as well.. i had someone send this to me a while back. Just thought i'd post it here in case anyone was interested. A mom who is an advocate for child car seat safety because her 3 year old was killed in a car accident. They even offer financial assitance to those who can't afford the recommended seats. Anyway, just thought i'd post it because it really impacted me.
    good luck!

4 year and 40lbs isn't the law (maybe in some states) but it's the recommendation to keep children harnassed as long as possible and at least until age 4 and 40lbs. The AAP recommends the same, and car seat experts will tell you 4 years AND 40lbs is a bare minimum. Seatbelts are not designed for small children and their tiny organs. Nor are most of them developmentally ready to sit in a regular seatbelt in the proper position all the time.

Please keep your child harnassed as long as possible. There are plenty of seats out there that can keep your child harnassed until age 6-8 (Radian, Regent, APEX 65, and even the Marathons and similar models will harnass your child longer than age 4). It's important to compare top slots heights since child height isn't necessarily the thing you should be looking at ... look / measure torso height. Some kids have small torsos, other long torsos.

    Watch these videos too:

Crash test (difference between booster and a regular car seat):
    - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2kO8AxKbrM...feature=related (booster in front, car seat in the back).

My oldest is almost 4 years old. She was 40 1/2 inches and 39lbs at age 3 and has a long torso (she was about to outgrow a Marathon) and she's now happy in a Radian 65 with still room to grow. There is no way I would put her in a regular seatbelt (with booster) just yet.

Sooooo agree! My oldest is 95% (40 1/2 inches and 39lbs at age 3) for everything and she has plenty of room to grow in a Radian 65. My guess is she can stay in until age 6 and at least 5 years. Regents will accomodate to age 6-8.

Of all things you have to buy for your child, a safe car seat should be your top priority. I can think of 100, 1000 other things I'd rather safe money on than my children's car seats.

Well said. And if you cannot afford ask around to trusted family and friends. I got a 2 year old Marathon from my close friend when her son outgrew it. FREE. :D That saved this three kids one income family of 5 a lot of money so I could afford to buy a new Marathon for the other twin when they outgrew their infant seats. B)
