We got back our report today and the pathologist confirmed that the placenta was mono/di. My OB and peri were already 90% sure about this. I figure that we won't go ahead with any further testing but I do have a question for all you mono/di moms out there...do your ID's look identical because mine don't. They look very similar but I can easily tell them apart at this stage. They have stork bites in different locations and they are different sizes, but more importantly they have different facial features. I know they are 2 different people but I guess I was thinking they would literally be Identical. Anyone else have id's that look different. I would love to see pics too. I also posted some pics -maybe I am just crazy..

I dont have ID.. but Im pretty sure they will start looking more alike as they get older.. They look a lot alike to me. but of course one is bigger b/c they were growing different in utero... so just try to keep an eye on them since you can tell them apart now.. cuz you might now be able to in a couple of months! :)

You're not crazy. Most moms of mono/di babies can easily tell them apart and many think their babies look quite different. Stork bites and head shape are all determined by womb position not genetics so you can have babies with very dissimilar head shapes who are still "identical". As your babies get older they'll probably start to look more alike.

Can I request a couple more close up pictures? I can tell my boys apart by head shape. And one it seems has slightly and I mean slightly larger features, but the features all look the same. Does that make sense?

My mono di identicals look NOTHING alike either. Here's some recent pics. If they hadn't shared it all.. I'd swear they were frats too. It's natural. We know them soooo well that to us they are COMPLETELY different.

Keep in mind, I mixed them up this morning.. It was really odd. I've never done that before! The older they get, the more alike they look. Absolutely nobody can tell them apart.. not even their Grandparents or Aunts or Uncles.. NO ONE except me and DH, usually..

They look ID to me... It's normal for mom of ID twins to think they look differently. Most will deny having ID twins until they do a DNA test too.

Haha I thought I was crazy because my boys are mono/di and I have a hard time believing it myself!!! Every time someone asks me how I tell them apart I look at them like they are crazy!

You're the mom so you are going to see a difference IMO! I have been able to tell my girls apart since they were only a few days old. On the other hand my DS still has problems. Identicals can have some differences though.

I know that when I see my girls together I can easily tell who is who. When they are next to each other they look very different to me. Plus each baby has her own personality now, so each baby makes different facial expressions.

Have you ever been away from the babies, and then when you come home only 1 baby is in the room? If my girls are dressed in the same clothes, and DH goes into their room to get them from their nap and I see one baby from a distance it is a 50/50 chance I am going to think she is her sister. Also, people who don't see them every day don't know who is who.

Here are some pics of mine. I'll put a couple where they look alike and a couple where they look nothing alike.

    looking different

so identical I don't know who is who

    looking identical

    looking different

They just make different faces now so it makes them look different IMO.
