Well we went to the doc yesturday, and Sarah's the Ped heard/felt a clicking in her L hip. She told me that it could mean that her hip is dislocated, which is congenital & I guess not that uncommon. Although I had never heard of it. We went for xrays right after the appt. If her hip would've been dislocated than we would've had to see a Pediatric Ortho so they could be fitted with a brace to stabilize her hip until the muscles grew more. I was scared to death. I know in the big picture here this isn't really a major issue. But taking my little baby for xrays was nuts! She did great. But she was drowsy from the shots. Anyway, I just rcvd a call from the RN & the xrays came back fine. She does not have a dislocation.

Thank GOD! But I'm still wondering what might cause a clicking sound in her hip? The Ped just said she'd monitor it as we go.

Anyone else had any experience with this?

My son had a "hip click" that was discovered while I was still in the hospital after having him. It was treated by double diapering him for about a month. I was told it was common....

I was born with hip dysplacia (sp?)... and I wore a brace for a few months.

I am glad to hear she doesn't have a dislocation.

My boys were both breach. I was told that they will have to be watched for this until they are 18 months old. They also told me that it is more common for girls to have this problem. Hope that helps.

Just watch it. My mom was born with hip displacia and they put her in braces for her legs but never really corrected the hip problem. It wasnt discovered until she was PG with me and had a horrible vaginal delivery. She had her 1st hip surgery when she was 28 and her last one when she was 50. Things are good now but she will always limp. Okay didnt want to scare ya... just encourage you to keep it monitored.

Our girls had 4/4 indicators for hip displaysia: Asian Girl Twins Breech (well, Ainsley wasn't breech). They both had clicks at birth that were monitered several times via ultrasound, the last time at 4 mos. We double diapered them for a month or so but the orthopedic surgeon put a stop to that because he said it was basically pointless.
The worst they would have had to do was to wear a brace for a year or so, but they "outgrew" the click. There were all kinds of studies done about the phenomenon, and it's pretty normal. I'm sure your babe-a-los will be ok!
