I moved my girls to toddler beds around age 2. At 18 months old, one of my girls climbed out of her crib. I got a crib tent, and had to take the tent off to wash it. It was not dry when it was bed time, so instead I converted the crib to a toddler bed. Here is a scrapbooking page I made of their 4th night in toddler beds.

    1. Ours went in at a little over 2.

    2. They were climbing out of their cribs and we couldnt find the tents anywhere. Then we did order them at Walmart.com but by the time they got here we didnt need them.

    3. The nights went okay. In the first few nights/week or so they were getting out of bed in the middle of the night and really early in the morning. It was a novelty and it did soon wear off.

    GL with your decision.

    1. They were 15 months when I moved them into toddler beds.

    2. We were moving into a bigger house and they for some reason were not sleeping very good in their cribs. They would wake up a lot or cry when I put them to bed in their crib. So with the move I just decided to switch to toddler beds.

    3. The first few nights they would get out of bed and wonder around the bedroom. I put up a gate so they couldn't get out of their room. I would find them sleeping on the floor or behind the chair together. After about 5 days the novelty wore off and they stayed in bed. Except for most nights one or the other would crawl in bed with the other one (so I would have 2 lil ones in one toddler bed). Since I took them out of the crib they started sleeping through the night again and they didn't cry when I put them to bed. I guess they just started not liking their cribs for some reason. It took a long time before they actually slept in their own beds by themselves alone. But I didn't care if they wanted to share their lil beds together at least they were sleeping and we had no crying or protesting before bed anymore.

Good Luck with your adventure. They will probably love the little beds.

Moved these guys in a little over 2...but moved all my others in well before 2.

I was scared of what the two would get into together, so I waited until they were crawling out of the crib. I had tried it once before they were 2, but it was a disaster, so I put the cribs back up and left them for another 6 months.

This time they were excited and loved their beds...although when they actually went to sleep, it was on the floor. It still has it's tough moments, but for the most part I was glad I did it. I started sitting outside the door where they could see me, then moved to where they could see part of me, etc. Now I can usually tuck them in and they are fine!

I hope it goes well for you when you decide to do it!

One week shy of their 3rd birthday--got them as Christmas presents
    2. why did you decide that age?
I had transitioned my son at 3 and had no problems with him, so I figured that I wanted to wait until they were 3 as well and hopefully would lessen the amount of problems with them. I also wanted to start trying to fully potty trainig my girls.
    3. how did the transition go? tell me about the first few nights/weeks.
First month no problems whatsoever, after that, had to separate for naps because they would play (not sure if that is bed related though), but other than that, minimum amount of problems. Good transition for us. No nighttime problems at all.

I didn't move mine to toddler beds, moved them straight to twin beds at age 3. The transition was wonderful. We had no issues at all.

We moved these two just after they were two (all of our other kids were younger). They just seemed ready & were getting kind of big for the crib (they were still sleeping together in the crib). The first few nights went great! They did get up & climb into my bed in the middle of the bed, but they went to bed with no problems & were so excited to be in their own beds!

We switched at about 21 months and it went great. The first few nights Piper fell out several times, and Cricket once or twice. We quickly put up a half rail (half the crib wall height and only half the length of the bed). It works great to keep them from falling out but still allows them to climb in and out. No issues at all after that. Well, I guess I should add that Cricket has now taken to getting out of bed and standing by the door when she wakes up, even if it's in the middle of the night. Fortunately she screams "I want mommy" at the top of her lungs so we always know to go in and remind her to get back in bed.

I'm 100% satisfied with the switch to beds, and I can tell the girls are happier about going to bed too.

    2. We planned to use the cribs for the girls and didn't what her to feel displaced; she went right into a twin bed.
    3. She was fine...no issues; she actually called me to get her out of bed for quite awhile!

    2. She and Ellie were sharing a room in 2 separate cribs. Ellie's crib was on the second highest setting and we couldn't move it lower because we broke it and she was needing the mattress lowered. Jo went into a toddler bed.
    3.No problems!

    2. I wanted the crib OUT! I was ready to be done with cribs and she loved Jo's bed.
    3. Again, no problems!

You've gotten a bunch of replies...but here is my story!

We switched the twins a few months before their 2nd birthday. Early, I know, but Sam was having a TERRIBLE time going to sleep in his crib. He would scream bloody murder when it got time for him to be put down, and due to the fact that he is just too darn stubborn (he would go one for an hour) and I am a CIO flunkie, we decided to play up the "big boy bed" thing for a day or two and go ahead and convert their cribs to toddler beds. The first night they were to sleep in the toddler beds, that evening we went to target and let them each pick out a special night-night bear/stuffed animal. We told them that this bear would only stay in the big boy and big girl bed, and that it would stay awake all night to watch out for them through the night. We kept their bedroom door open, and put up a tension gate across the bottom of it, but only had to do it for the first 4 or 5 nights. I think I was just lucky, but they transitioned REALLY well. We only had a night or two of one or both getting up and walking to their door yelling for us. It just took going in there and soothing them for a few minutes and they were right back to sleep.

    Good Luck!
