Ok, so when my daughter was born 3 years ago we had planned on a 100% all natural delivery. We had an awesome midwife and were totally against any drugs or other assistive measures. Well, after about 20 hours things changed. I still did not want any drugs or assistive methods used, but medically they were saying they needed to do something because she was not moving through the birth canal. I agreed because my husband and mother were telling me that they felt they had no other options. So, I ended up with an epidural and pitocin to try helping the labor to preogress. Another 9 hours and still nothing. They were saying that they really felt they needed to do a c-section because they were concerned for my health and the baby's heath. I said can I wait just 1 more hour before making a decision, they agreed and after an hour still nothing... I ended up with a c-section and delivered a very healthy happy 10 lb. 4 oz. baby girl.

This time around I had really wanted to try the natural route, then we found out it was twins and they said the only way that they could attempt a vaginal birth would be if they were both head down. Well, since then I have changed doctrs because my previous doctor seemed to lack experience in twin delivery and got really defensive when we asked questions. The new doctor said that he would highly recommed a c-section since I had one with my first, but would do whatever I choose. We talked about it more and he said well, "If you were my wifev I would be doing a c-section." He said he felt it was safer since there would be an increased rate of uterine rupture since I have had a previous c-section and since my uterus will be streched more since there are twins. I said that although I had wanted a vaginal delivery I would have a c-section if it was safer for everyone involved. So we are having the c-section.... He has scheduled me for one November 8 @ 8:30 am!

Of course it is exciting to have a date and know that there is an end in sight.... BUT.... I am scared to death to have another c-section! My first thought is how I will do with the epidural or spinal. The first time around I had been in labor so long that I had no clue what was going on, this time I will know and will not be happy about it at all! Secondly, I know what a c-section is and what the proceedure entails as well as the risks involved...

Any opinions? Has anyone had a planned c-section that could share their experience?

Thanks! Sorry it is so long!

The delivery of my first daughter ended up being a C/S (she was stuck)...which ended up being an emergency C/S. It was one of the worst experiences in my life...which I hate to admit, but I ended up being put under GA.
So the second time around, with my second daughter, I knew a C/S was on the horizon and I was super nervous about how it would all go down. Turns out, the whole experience was completely different and actually enjoyable, as much as a birth/surgery can be..lol. The spinal was quick and things went smoothly.
I can almost bet you will have a better experience this time, good luck!

I know lots of docs shy away from vbac with twins..and odds are that even if they let you go for vbac it will only be under ideal circumstances...both babies vertex, baby B measuring smaller than baby A...etc., etc... So I think in your shoes c/s is probably the path of least resistance. my scheduled c/s wasn't bad at all.. I didn't respond all that well to the spinal...had to have it twice...but it didn't hurt going in at all. The problem was they hadn't hydrated me well enough and my bp dropped which made me almost pass out, and I was dry heaving...ick... but it even having the spinal twice wasn't bad at all...it didn't hurt, really. You'll be fine.

It sounds like you have a terrific doctor, one that's really concerned for you and your health. Hope that things go smoothly for you!!! I can see why it would be stressful for you, having an emergency C-section and then looking forward to another one, but I'll bet anything that it will be easier for you this time since you have time to mentally prepare for it, and there won't be the same kind of stress involved.

BTW, I was just thinking about you and your earlier post about the baby shower, and not getting things that you needed. Has the financial situation resolved itself at all? Were you able to find things that you needed? :hug99: Here's hoping that everything has resolved itself nicely!!

Thanks for asking! Things have definately been stressful. I guessthe hardest part is that my mother apparently thinks that since we have clothes we have all we need! And we do have all the clothes we need, but a stroller and maybe a couple aof swings would be nice too! Ihave had some luck with freecycle.com and craigslist.com. Even though he is in the sameboat ina way, my husband is really helping. Igenerally am not one to say how I feel about things and I think that he was surprisedat how much Isaid about how I felt about what we need. I have been looking into twin groups in my area as well and we have found that the nearest one is about 45-50 minutes from us which is a ways, but not to far! I am hoping to make some local connections there as well. So, things are looking up a little!

Thanks for the reasurances! I have really been nervous about this the whole pregnancy, but now with a date it seemsso much more real, and CLOSE! It just seems odd for me this time around to be planningto go that route. It just seems surreal to me that I am scheduled to deliver at 8:30am November 8th... So unlike my first! I am hoping that like many of you have said that the preparation will make things go more smoothly.

I had a planned c-section and glad it was planned. I was very prepared though very scared. The spinal was not as bad as my epidural that I had with my daughter...went way more smoothly and not nearly as painful. The whole thing was so much easier than I had anticipated including recovery. Things happened fast too with me b/c it was an emergency c/s. I had an u/s done at 10am and the girls were born at 1:45pm. DH almost didn't make it too...it was quite the tense time, but still all was well. I think going in prepared mentally and emotionally helped greatly. I took a lot of advice and stayed up on my pain meds, didn't drink carbonated drinks, and got up and moving ASAP. Since you have had one already you know these things most likely.

Surgery is scary no matter what and for it me it was my first. I am glad I had the c-section though over a vaginal delivery and if for someone reason I would end up pg again, I would opt for the c/s instead of a VBAC.

I haven't had any children yet but I just wanted to say that I'm so jealous that you have an end date!!! I know my doctor won't let me go past November 2, but I wish so much that I had a set date for induction or a C Section!! I'd be fine with a C section, I just want to know when this will be over!!!

I had a semi-planned c/s. We knew we would have to take them early and by surgery because of their IUGR. I was scared since I had a perfect vag birth with DD1 and had never had so much as stiches before the c/s!

I went into it armed with suggestions from this board and was laughing and joking with my OB and the anestheticians the whole time. I just focused on having my beautiful babies and it went very quickly.

I'm sure everything will be ok! It might be easier than the first time, since you won't be as exhausted or scared!
