We are just over one year old now and all of a sudden, we are waking up A LOT at night...I mean A LOT. I know dd is getting her molars and I've given her motrin before bed and still, waking up often. They still mostly take two naps a day. I follow sleepy cues and if they seem tired, they go down in the morning. Is this just a phase or is it time to go to one nap a day? I still think dd needs two, but she sure doesn't sttn anymore. HELP. I'm getting really tired and I'm sick right now, so this isn't the best timing, of course it will happen when I'm sick. Any advice or suggestions? Is this just another normal milestone?

Around this age, we had some sleep disruptions, too. Our boys napped twice per day until 22 months, so in our case, it definitely wasn't from too much napping! I think a lot of it is related to the tremendous amount of developmental milestones they are reaching - almost or recently learning to walk; probably contemplating their first words; those pesky molars... add 'em all up and it's pretty demanding on those little bodies and brains. It can cause a bit of sleep disturbance. Are you sure they are well-fed before bed? Maybe a snack or something like that could help. Also, we started offering sippy cups of water in their cribs at night around age 1.

Good luck! Hope the STTN returns again soon!

 I hope STTN happens again for you soon! I agree with Erin, they could be reaching some new developmental milestones and those molars are tough buggers.

I agree the pp. fortunately, my boys didn't really do the whole sleep disturbance thing very often but at their one year appt, our pedi warned us it could happen. He said its because they're learning so many new things and the urge to practice their new skills is so strong they even wake up and try to do things in the middle of the night.
Good luck with it, I don't envy you having to get up, especially when you don't feel good! Hope you feel better soon!

Milestones, teeth & sickness are the three major sleep disruptions around here. I hope it is just a hiccup.

Thanks ladies! I hope it is short lived to. What you said really makes sense. She is all about climbing and trying to walk now. Atleast now I know why this is happening.

 We've gone thru phases like that too. I hope yours is quick and your kiddos go back to being good sleepers.
