My friend, the L&D nurse who is studying to be a midwife and was with me throughout my whole delivery with the twins, has really helped me out! I e-mailed her telling her what my doc said about not going for a VBAC ("too risky") and what did she think ... she thought it was a load of bunk and my doc's way of getting off easy by just scheduling a C-section. She called a doctor that she goes to, that she highly recommended to me early in the pregnancy but I couldn't get in to see, and asked her opinion and told her the story ... the doc said that there was NO REASON why I couldn't at least try for a VBAC and to call her today and talk to her personally and she would get me in.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: That's a load off!!! Thank you, friend!!!!!!!!

YAY! So glad you found an alternative! I too want a VBAC and feel lucky that my OB is very supportive of it. I agree that the other doc sounded like he just wanted to get off easy...maybe because a VBAC is a little more work on his part of something with extra monitoring???? Keep us posted!

This sounds like a great situation. Great you kept in touch with this nurse. Sometimes it helps to meet one great person and they open the doors for you. Exactly what happened in my situation. I found one person who lead me to the group of people who were a part of my birth. I hope you have a beautiful birth!

FYI, I interviewed several practices before settling on one group and the one of many questions I had on my list was how did they define a normal gestation period. Several practices said maybe up to 41 weeks, almost all which included midwife groups. I didn't agree with this only because most women don't fall into spontaneous labor UNTIL 41 weeks. I wanted them to trust my body and that it would go into labor on its own. I really didn't have a cut-off week necessarily. As long as the stress tests, u/s, etc... showed healthy baby and mommy, I was content.

The reason I mention this is because going into spontaneous labor favors a vbac vs. any induction method (breaking your water, pitocin, cervical enhancement agents, etc..). If your baby is not ready to come and labor is forced on you, you are more likely to end up with a csection vs. someone who goes into spontaneous labor with no augmentation, nothing.

Again, I think you found a great group. I really, really, really hope you have a great birth. Every woman should feel they are in charge of their birth and make their own decisions regarding their body and baby.

One last note, I have a friend in Wisconsin and she says there are great free standing birth clinics in the Milwaukee area. You could also consider that.

that is fantastic news!!! i'm so excited for you - and what a great resource your friend is.

just wanted to second the opinion about induction vs spontaneous labor - see if your new doctor will allow pregnancy to run its course if everything with the baby/your health is going well.

i went 11 days past due with extra monitoring of fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid level, etc but everything was fine, baby was active, and although frustrated, i was healthier than ever ;) there is no increased risk of uterine rupture for vbac women delivering at 42 weeks versus 40 - after that doctors want the baby to come out, whether it's normal delivery or vbac - better for the baby i guess!

please keep us posted - i look forward to hearing your birth story!
