We recently had our 4 month appointment and the doc said that we could start rice cereal. Then DS came down with a nasty cold :( ...I've decided to wait on the cereal...is that a good idea? I think I just need reassurance!

Yes, that probably is a good idea. At 4 months old they probably aren't really going to eat any of the cereal. They have never had anything spoon fed to them before and they aren't going to know what you are trying to do. My girls really didn't start taking food from the spoon until almost 6 months old. So if your son isn't feeling well I wouldn't worry about trying it right now!

I would say it's okay to hold off until he is feeling better. We started at four months with all three of our kids, too. At this point, it is just teaching them to eat from a spoon, their nutrition is still coming from the bf or formula. Some people don't start any solids until 6 months, so it is fine! Hope the litte guy is feeling better soon!!

My pedi gave us the go ahead to start at 4 months, but I'm going to hold off a bit...I'm thinking til 5 months or so. I think DS might be ready to start trying, but I don't think DD is, so I'm going to wait for her, and just start them together.

We got given the ok for DS at 4 months, but decided to wait until 6 months... and kinda wish I had waited longer. The AAP still recommends to start after 6 months, so if anything, it's probably better to wait.

    Yep, no problem with waiting.

The AAP and many other organizations recommend you wait until at least 6 months to introduce solids, and there is some research out there that suggests waiting longer can lower the risk of developing food allergies. Many medical professionals now believe that the digestive system is not mature enough to handle solids until 6 or 7 months old (that would be adjusted age, if yours came early). So waiting to give them cereal is probably the safer option, anyway. :)

Yes, it's definitely okay to wait until he feels better. I hope he's better soon .
