Todays ultrasound showed AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL results! We couldn't believe it when we were told that the babies' fluid levels are almost the same! Baby A's fluid is 5 cm. and Baby B's fluid is 4.6 cm.!!! Just a couple weeks ago the fluid levels were at 10cm and 2.5cm. We were in the early stages of TTTS. According to their measurements today baby B is really catching up in weight too! He is bigger now than Baby A...this is a first! Baby A is 1 lb. 4 oz. and Baby B is 1 lb. 7 oz. This is exciting news, because at our very first ultrasound when the babies were 7 weeks old Baby B was 9 days smaller than Baby A and had been smaller at every other scan there after.

The babies have also changed position for the 1st time that we have seen. At every other scan Baby A's was head down and Baby B was breech. Now, Baby A is breech and Baby B is head down. This was caused a bit of confusion for us at first because today they were calling Our Baby A - Baby B because he was not presenting 1st. Basically, we should really call them Baby Right and Baby Left. Baby A (the original Baby A) is Baby Right and Baby B (the original Baby B) is Baby Left. Gees...we need to just name these babies!

Another development that we learned about today is that Baby A's kidneys are a bit swollen. We were told this is called pyelectasis. Basically this is what that is: An enlargement of the part of the kidney that collects urine (the renal pelvis) from 4 to 10 millimeters in diameter is called fetal pyelectasis or “renal pelvic dilatation”. Dilation of the renal pelvis to greater than 10 mm is called severe pyelectasis or hydronephrosis. Pyelectasis is detected in 1 per 100 babies before birth, and is seen more commonly in male fetuses. About 1 in 500 cases develops significant disease. Most mild cases resolve before birth or within a few months after delivery.
