I had two apppointments this past Friday. I passed my gestational diabetes test with flying colors, scored a 101. I also had my first manual check of my cervix, not fun! The P.A. said she felt Addi's head. weird. Cervix is firm and all is good down there. Babies hbs and my blood pressure are excellent. I also recived a GBS test! A swab of the vagina and the anus. This was a complete surprise to me. I thought I knew it all from being on this site. I am posting this to forewarn all Moms who might not know about this hidden jewel of a test. My 2 week appointments start now and as of Jan. 7th the stress tests start. I am nearing the end and the end is loaded with trips to the OB!

We also got in for the 3d/4d this Friday! So excited.

What is a GBS test? What does it test for? Glad the babies are doing well :)

Aaahhh... I want to know about more about that test. Doesn't sound like much fun at all. What are they testing for?

Group B Strep test...it tests to see if you are a carrier...if you are, it can be passed to baby during birth. If you are a carrier, they can give you antibiotics so it's not passed to the baby during delivery.

I had this done, but I barely remember...I don't think I had it that early though. I had to have been about 32-33 weeks. They did mine, started me on antibiotics right away adn then send the culture out to be tested. I was in danger of delivering (on hospital bedrest), so they put me on antibiotics until the test came back just in case. luckily it was negative. I don't remember getting the actual test done though.

Yes, it is Strep of the down below regions. As stated above if you have it, it's not a big deal at all your IV will have an antibiotic in it so your babies won't get it. They told me that they take the swab early with twins in case of premature delivery. If it is not caught it is terminal.

I did this as well BUT got to do it myself...I was given the swab and went to the washroom and "did it" and took the swab back. It was positive so I ended up needing antibiotics as soon as my OB broke my water. I think I did the test at 34 weeks of pregnancy.
