I have seen some people have given their kids goldfish crackers. If you gave them to yours around 12 months did you give the baby goldfish or the regular golfish? Did you break them up in pieces or give them whole? I am looking for a new snack for mine, besides puffs and cheerios and the arrowroot cookies. Thanks.

Great question! I buy baby goldfish and give them whole...they tend to crumble if broken. My boys are 16 mos and we still use the baby goldfish. (I actually bought the goldfish pretzels(regular size) to try but they seem too big to me, so they aren't getting those) Another favorite is Teddy Grahams...I have bought both, regular and mini's and I still break both in half. We also snack on Kix and Multi-Grain cheerios.
    Good luck in your search!

We didn't do goldfish until a bit later. I was probably overly cautious about the size (didn't know there were baby goldfish) and every time I tried to break them in half, they just crumbled. We did lots of crackers, broken into tiny bites... graham crackers, zweibeck crackers, etc. I just broke them into pieces about the size of a puff. We also gave them wasa crisp crackers, broken into small pieces. DH says they taste like styrofoam, but I think our babies liked them because they dissolved much like the puffs and cheerios.

we've done the baby goldfish, we don't break them up or anything. We do any number of snacks..usually whatever's handy. fruit loops, cheetoes, gummy juice snacks from Gerber Grads., pretty much any kind of cracker, teddy grahams, now they love apples cut up as snacks as well.

We do the regular (original, not flavored) goldfish at 11 months...the boys have no problem with them and handling table foods/textures has NOT been their strong suit...although we have made good progresss just in the last week.

WE did the baby goldfish at that age and then whole goldfish around 13 months- they eat them like champs now- 16 1/2 months adjusted- but wish they'd eat other foods like champs!!!

We've never tried goldfish (although we should!), but FWIW, your kids may be able to handle whole crackers by now. (Just regular adult crackers -- we like the Milton's whole grain ones from Costco.)

I've found that the in-between sizes are hard -- those things (like big goldfish) that are hard to take a bite of, but still too big to eat whole. But since about 10-11 months, they've done really well if I give them whole crackers. They either suck on them or bite pieces off.

Mine love the baby goldfish (at 12 months I think its better to give the baby ones because of size. Mine also like the regular and extra cheese

We ocassionally bought the baby goldfish but I gave the regular ones before 12 months and did not have any problem. My girls can eat practically anything now (almost 21 months), but it takes practice for them.

I think 12 months is when I gave Goldfish to my babes. They were big into biting things so size really didn't bother me. They break easy in my opinion. I also didn't know there was a Baby variety, I probably would have bought those if I had seen them.

My girls love goldfish crackers, both regular size and baby. No problems with either ones!

Thanks ladies. I think I will give the Baby goldfish a try. I only knew there was baby goldfish because we used to get them for my oldest DD when she was younger. I'm going to get some tonight. [IMG]

At that age we did the baby goldfish. Now we just buy the regular ones with extra calcium.
