Going through the motions

My girls will go trough all the motions of using the potty.
lift lid, pull down pants, sit on toilet, wipe (if I let them), stand up, pull up pants, close lid

But they just don't actually go potty? It's just weird and I've never heard anyone say this before.

What's going on here? It's kinda driving me crazy! They keep asking to use the toilet. I let them as don't want to be unsupportive of them wanting to potty training, but then just don't go. Then they get all done and ask again. I hate to say, no you just tried, but how much time should I spend out of my day letting them do this? Is this normal?

 

This is absolutely normal!

Mine have done this for a while now. They rarely produce anything, really, but the fact of going and doing it like a "big" kid is exciting for them. This is all just practice and they are just starting to comprehend the whole concept. Don't worry and keep giving support and cheer for them when they go (even if nothing happens, that's OK). It still will take a little while with a few bumps in the road before they actually do it. Your doing a great job! Take a deep breath and follow their lead! :hug99:

 

Yours are VERY young to be potty training--unless your ticker is wrong. I think they are just copying others by going through the motions and have no idea what is supposed to happen. I would give it a rest for about a year and try again.

That makes a bit more sense. I would still give it a rest, and try again in a couple of months.
