    big sigh

ok Rachel started saying "I pee in diaper" at 12 months. started training her at 18months. she was doing well. but she got into the habit of relying on me to take her to the potty or to remind her to go.

At 20 months Alexis started training....

At this point, at 2 yo, I am sick of all the accidents. I've been using gerber training panties. so pee gets all over the carpet, furniture sometimes, floors etc. i am tired of laundry and very frustrated with the girls. What caused the reversal? or have things never really clicked?

I've tried stickers and peanut butter chips as rewards. They will pee in the potty but as they get more involved in their little worlds of playing... It seems that they aren't stopping to go potty. until it's too late.
They are aware of when they have an accident. but some days we have 3-4 accidents each.

    my choices are
    1. starve and dehydrate them, thereby foregoing the need for elimination (obviously not)
    2. continue as we are
    3. put them back in diapers for a few months but continue to take them to the potty when I think of it.
    4. buy feel and learn pants.
    5. ??

Heather I have no advice for you since my kids are absolutely not ready to potty train. They are great at telling me after the fact but not so much before. Perhaps you should revert back to diapers and give it another shot in a few months. Maybe they won't like the diapers and will start telling you when they need to go. Honestly, I obviously have no clue. I hope someone with more experience can offer some words of wisdom.

I agree with Trish--many times kids do go backwards--it is perfectly normal. I would just go back to diapers--they are on the VERY young side for potty training. My guess is that in a couple of months, they will simply train overnight.

I agree, go back to the diapers/pull-ups. Maybe try the feel and learn type, I haven't tried them.

I think pullups are too expensive to be using on a daily basis, I would go back to diapers for a bit but keep making sure they understand the whole process of using the bathroom. I think you are causing yourself alot of undue stress with all the accidents etc. I too agree that what is happening is completely normal. I think that is why the 'experts' say once the child seems ready..... wait 3 months then start. I think the early stage of showing readiness is completely normal but doesn't always mean they are in it for the long haul. If after 3 months they are still showing as ready then it is probably the real thing and not just the initial short term interest!

This happened with my DD. I put her into pull-ups for a month and then tried again. It seemed to help to not bother her about it.

thanks for the advice, i am still open to more advice, especially any good books or additional links on potty training. i re-read the ones linked to the moderators info late last night.

I bought feel/learn pants today and told the girls not to pee in them. They love Dora, so maybe this will work. I am also eliminating all rewards from this point forward. i think maybe part of my problem was doing the rewards for too long.

thanks for feeling my frustration with me. This phase of life drives me nuts. i know, tomorrow they will be running off to college, finally potty trained. . .

that's what I would do, u can easily undo a diaper if they ask to go potty

good luck (ps my girls didn't train until after 3 years)

feel and learn pants dont work. they peed in them all day long and never realized what they were doing??? or they were comfortable enough not to tell me.

this morning I had them running around in their "birthday suits" and they both went on the potty without my prompting. I am leaving them in their sundresses and bare bottoms until lunch to see what happens.
