This is probably a dumb question, but I really don't know...
Will it totally screw them up if they have to sleep in a pack n play instead of a crib? Do they "see" a pack n play differently from a crib? Will they know that it is sleep time at night even though they will be sleeping in a pnp? I ask because I have a chance to get two cribs where I am going, but it will cost some money...
    Just wondering.

    thanks

I think it would be just like you sleeping in a different bed, yes I think it will be harder for them at first. I think getting the cribs will be the same though, because they will be in a different environment.

We go to my mom's on Long Island every other month for 4-6 days or so. My girls sleep in pack n plays at her house. The first couple of times they were perfect. This last time I noticed Emma having a problem with naps and then it hit me! We have a Sassy mirror in their crib and she holds onto one of the animals that dangles from it as she falls asleep. She didn't have that, so I think that's why she was having trouble! When we got back I started giving her a small stuffed animal to hug as she went to sleep, that way we can take it with us when we go back to mom's, or anywhere else. I think Lauren will be my child that can sleep anywhere. She always does so well! So my only advice is that if they have something in their crib they are attached to that they need to fall asleep, bring it with you.

One more thing, I always keep their routine the same. We use a sound machine, no nightlight and I keep the lights low and sing to them as I put their jammies on. I do the same exact thing at my mom's for consistency. My mom and stepdad like to come up with me as I bring them into the bedroom and then once their diapers are changed I kick them out so their routine is "normal". Good luck!

So, I should just stick with the pnp? It would save me money - which is always great!! Thanks

We spend weekends and two weeks on Cape Cod every summer. Both the last two years, we have put the two of them in a PNP together. They haven't had any problems.

K&K never have any problems sleeping in a PNP or anywhere away from home. I know some people like to ease their children into the PNP by having them nap in them at home, in a familiar setting before taking them somewhere different. Would that be an option for you?

That's a great idea!! They have never liked the pnp, but I should probably start getting them used to it. thanks!

My babies are very attached to their cribs, especially Zoe. It is hard for her to sleep somewhere else, but not impossible. I notice that if I try to keep other things about bedtime the same, like the same blanket, stuffed animal, bottle, etc, she does better. Also, if the room is dark they do better.

My kiddos have a PNP at their grandparents house that they sleep in when they are over there, and they have been pretty good about it. It used to be at our house for the first week or so that they were home, and they slept in it then, and then we moved it to my parent's house and every time they are over there they nap/sleep in it. I've started bringing the mobile that hangs over their crib at home to put on the PNP and that probably helps.

My kids dont seem to have a problem transitioning, I think at times they prefer the pnp because its smaller so they feel more secure

I think it depends on the baby. Jacob sleeps in the PNP for naps and doesn't mind it. BUt when we just went away, MIa also slept in a PNP and had some issues at nap time. But that MIGHT NOT have been due to the PNP. It might have the change in schedule. AT night she did fine in the PNP.
    Definitely give it a go.
