Happened to be in BRU returning something a few days ago and noticed a bunch of bottles on their back counter. I asked the clerk and she said that through the end of the month they are accepting bottle returns (as long as you have all the pieces to the bottles - box/packing materials not required) in exchange for BPA free. So this morning I packed up 27 of the non BPA free Dr. Browns bottles (some 4oz and some 8oz) and took them in. Sure enough, the clerk counted them up and wrote out a list by SKU (4 3pk 8oz @ 12.99, 3 3pk 4oz @ 12.99) and told me what my "credit amount" would be. She told me I could purchase any bottles in the feeding department up to that value - Born Free, Dr. Brown's BPA free, Platex drop ins, etc. So, I raided the 8oz Dr. Brown's BPA free section (sorry to anyone who came after me!).

My SIL in Virginia was able to return hers this morning as well, but got a plain store credit instead of an "exchange." She did say that they wouldn't take back some bottles with giant sharpie writing all over them (daycare bottles). Tip: A little alcohol or nail polish will get that right off. And one of my friends here took hers back to a different BRU on her side of town and for her bottles with sharpie on them they credited her 80% of the value. So sounds like each store has a little different policy. If you are interested, I suggest giving your local BRU a call and see what they are doing.

Some stores will say they aren't doing it, or some clerks don't know about it, but if you call corporate, they are all supposed to be doing it. And you are supposed to get plain store credit too. So try to push for that.

Does anyone know if Avent bottles are BPA free?? I don't have the packages anymopre so I can't look at that, but I have a ton of the 4 oz bottles....

If so, I could just take them and get store credit???? That would be awesome.... Too bad the nearest BRU is an hour from me <_<

I just got back from BRU. My BRU does them bottle for bottle. They said they send it back to the company and just get credit with them so they don't give store credit- you just have to get the same brand bottles that you turned in.

    Avent are not BPA free.

It wouldn't make sense for them to make you get the same brand, since only a couple companies that they carry make BPA free bottles.

Avent are not BPA free and according to what the clerk told the folks in front of me BRU had no ETA on when they would have Avent BPA free. FWIW... The vast majority of the bottles on the back counter at my BRU store were Avent & Avent breast milk storage bottles. The folks in front of me ended up exchanging their Avent for Playtex drop ins. So our store at least is ambivilent about brand.

While it is clearly not what BRU intended the exchange program for, I did get a receipt for my bottles. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if I couldn't simply take some of them back with the receipt and get a general store credit gift card. We need most of ours, and I had already planned to give the extras to some friends who are expecting in the next few months. So BPA free for us, and saved me some $ on presents, too.

I'm talking about exchanging Dr. Brown's for Dr. Brown's. They said if I bring in Dr. Brown's bottles- I had to get Dr. Brown bottles.

I just called my store because I have a ton of Avent bottles and they will only let me exchange them for BPA free bottles. I don't need BPA free bottles because I already went out and bought the boys BPA free bottles several months ago.

Oh well there are several stores in my area, so I will keep calling.

yay yay yay!!!! I heard about this but wasn't sure if it was a nationwide thing or not. I only have Avent too, but I'll try taking them back. I really hope they'll let me exchange them for BPA-free bottles, although store credit would be cool too B)

I think I may puke. I threw away 42 Dr. Browns 8 oz bottles two months ago due to the BPA issue. They were PERFECT. That's like a gazillion dollars I think. UGH!

The BRU that is close to us told me I had to have a receipt for the bottles. I know I do not have the receipt for the bottles and also I bought some of them at Target.

I'd call the district manager...or even call corporate.....what a pain! They don't usually make you have reciepts for RECALLS! returns yes...but recalls no.

Just got back from BRU and exchanged my Avent bottles for a TON of Evenflo Classic's. I had 14 Avent bottles and get this, I got 63Evenflo's :icon_eek:

They told me the exchange is only for Avent & Dr. Browns. I have a bunch of Platex Ventaire's and she said those are not part of the exchange. But since Avent & Dr. Brown are doing it, chances are they will in the future.

You can exchange the bottles for any brand that's bpa free.

I went today and got $50 in credit for my bottles-I had 7 Dr. Browns and 4 Playtex Ventaire. I did not like these bottles because they had so many parts to clean. My twins went through a stage where they wanted different bottles so we just had a bunch laying around they didn't use anymore. I loved the soothies though because they are easy to clean and do not have a lot of air, infact none at all but I did not get credit for my soothies because my store didn't carry them. I got the Born Free ones because they didn't have much of a selection other than the Avent Tempos (not a good deal since this store only carried individual packages for $8 each) and Playtex drop (which they didn't have any in stock).

So we got 5 of the born free and guess what...MY KIDS HATE THEM. I hated them too because again they have all these parts I was not aware of AND the 3 bottle pack only comes with one ventair system so you have to wash it constantly or buy 2 more at $7 a pop. The only reason I exchanged these is because my other ones were lying around for no reason and they say to replace bottles every 3 months for hygiene reasons. Well for some reason I didn't throw them out-good thing huh?

I am glad I had the Soothies still because again they couldn't take them and I put the milk in those and they drank fine. I hope that I can return these and get different ones????? I am going to another BRU in another town so hopefully they will have more of a selection.

OH and I asked the girl what they are doing with all these bottles and she said the companies are taking them back. Guess if they get enough returned maybe they will do the BPA free thing only too?!!

Thanks for the info! I use the wide necked Dr. Brown and wanted Born Free so I exchanged 24 Avent bottles I had left over from my older DS and bought Born Free bottles that I can use the Dr. Brown parts with. If you are having trouble with babies adjusting or liking only a certain nipple there are a few websites that list all the parts and what is interchangable with what. I only found one after I discovered this myself  .

Here's a question ... I have a bazillion Dr Browns ... but we are done with bottles now ... If they will only let me buy new Dr Brown bottles, what's to stop from me taking home those new Dr Brown bottles, and then returning them a week later? Then I would just get store credit?

Hmmmm ... a plot is hatching in my head ...
