Please someone tell me this is just due to the fact that he has a cold and is also working on his last two, 2 year molars. Surely it is not possible for a child that is only 27 months old (can you hear the desperation in my voice) to go without any nap already. Plus, his sister still naps for 2 hours!! Help!!

mine are 39months ( 3yrs 3months) and they still nap 1-2 hours a day. Now, there are some days the Ian chooses not to nap, but, he still has down time. He usually ends up playing w/a book and singing. Vince ALWAYS naps, but, he has always been a sleeper and Ian has alway fought it. My guess is if you establish a "rest" time they will continue to nap. Mine fight the nap and i tell them they do not need to nap but the need a break or rest. Basically for us, it has been if I can get them still long enough they will sleep.

MY GIRLS ARE 3 YEARS 6 MONTHS AND TAKE ONE TO TWO HOUR NAPS. ONCE IN WHILE THEY MAY HAVE A VERY BUSY DAY AND THEIR NAPMAY BE ONLY 30 MINUTES BUT THIS RARE. IT SURE MAKES A DIFFERENCE WHEN THEY DONT GET A NAP IN THE EVENING. HOWEVER THEY DO GO BED TO QUICKER AT NIGHT BECAUSE THEY ARE EXHAUSTED.

I second this! My DD1 is also 39 months. It seems about your kids age she started to really battle nap time. I told her she didn't have to go to sleep but she had to be quiet in her crib & rest. She had a music tape that she really liked - the deal was she had to listen to the whole tape - if she was still awake when the music went off she could get up. Most days she was asleep by the time the tape ended (45mins ;) ) but I still felt that she (and me too!) benefited from the 45 mins of downtime when she didn't fall asleep. She still is doing her rest time & falls asleep probably 5 days a week. When she does nap it is usually 1 1/2 - 2 hours & believe me you can tell a difference in the evenings on the days she didn't fall asleep so I know she (and me too!) still needs it.

I have heard a lot of kids stop napping at this age...my boys are 2 1/2, and recently their sleeping schedule changed dramatically. They used to sleep from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., and sleep for 2-3 hrs in the afternoon. About a month ago they all the sudden started playing longer before they went to sleep at night. We figured it was either time to cut out the nap or let them go to bed later. We decided to go with the later bedtime to save our sanity. We head to bed at 8 p.m., read books, etc., and they play and chat until they fall asleep between 8:30-9:00 p.m. They are now getting up at 7 a.m., but they are still taking a 2-3 hr. nap in the afternoon. Yay! It works for us.
