Are they really only for girls over age 3? Are there any that are for younger? I mean, I see little girls under 3 with hair clips all the time. My mom bought some for Bea, and the package said Age 3+. I looked in WalMart and Target, thinking that was a fluke, and those also said 3+. [IMG] I need to do something to calm down Bea's hair, it's unruly but not really long enough to cut. I wanted to pin her bangs out of her eyes or do the Pebbles Flintstone tuft on top of the head.

You can get small rubberbands that don't pull the hair and don't slip. I think they are silicone or something. I'll have to check my package and let you know. I believe it's a Goody product. We do use hair clips but not those teeny-tiny ones because I worry about choking. The Stride Rites I've been in have these adorable bows on an alligator-type clip (but without the teeth). They stay even in the finest hair! We have tons of those.

Here's a picture where both girls are wearing them. Casey's are clipped into her pigtails (I used those rubber bands) and Amanda's is clipped into her "barely there" hair. [IMG]

I use barettes, bows and small elastic bands in Catherine's hair all the time. I've been putting bows in her hair since she was really little. I think it's fine. I do have a friend whose little girls tries to eat hers though, so I guess you have to be careful b/c they could choke.

I have yet to find clips and things that will stay in Hannah's hair. She has such a small amount of hair, that most things look too obnoxiously big or they don't grip the hair tight enough.

Our solution? I use tiny ouchless hair rubberbands. Then I tie little bows in her hair around the hair bands. The rubber keeps the bows from slipping off, and those little bands NEVER fall out (they even last through naps). Attached is a photo of her with her "ponies." We have tons of bows. I bought a bunch of ribbon at a craft store, in the scrapbooking section of all places. They were tiny spools and came in a variety of fun colors and patterns. Occasionally we do lose one and when we do, we have enough ribbon the spool to make a few spares!

ETA: Jennie, just saw yours (I was typing when you posted) and those are adorable!!!

Oh my gosh, Kate! Hannah is precious. What a sweetie. I can't believe how big she's gotten.

So, when you put the bow in, do you literally tie it around the piggy or do you have them pre-tied and you somehow attach it that way? Those are really cute. I just don't know if the girls will sit long enough for me to do it!

What cute pictures, Jennie and Kate! I love the little ponytails and bows [IMG] Bea's hair is finally long enough for me to do something with it, so of course I'm dying to put things in her hair, now I see I can even do something with Ainsley's hair [IMG] I'll look for those little ouchless bands and check out Stride Rite next time I'm at the mall. Thanks!!

I've always used the tiny rubber bands and then clipped a barrette or bow over them. They've never come out. Sarah's been getting her hair pulled back since about 13-14 months. I can't stand hair in her eyes.

One tip. Nobody would ever believe Sarah would sit while I did her hair. I actually do her hair while she's sitting in her highchair eating breakfast happily distracted.

Thanks. I can't believe how big everyone's babies have gotten. I about fell out of my chair when I saw your new avatar; I couldn't believe that you had two little GIRLS and not two little BABIES!

Yep, I literally tie the ribbon around the piggy. They aren't pre-tied or anything. It doesn't take long and Hannah LOVES wearing pig-tails so much, that she will sit through it (even when I mess up and have to do it all over again)!

I also use the little ouchless bands and put barrettes on top of them. If I didn't...the barrettes would just fall out.

sigh. . . . i can't wait until alisha has enough hair for ponies!!!!! she has a bit of a mullet going at the back, but only JUST NOW is her hair on top of her head long enough to curl up a tiny bit when wet. of course, then it dries and it is flat on her head. when is she going to get her gorgeous curls (i have curly jewish frizzy hair and dh is black so i'm guessing/ hoping curls are inevitable)?!?!?!?!?!?

Have faith! Casey has a TON of hair and it's straight as an arrow practically. Amanda's is JUST starting to thicken up and grow out a little and it's getting wavy. When she sweats in her sleep or the car seat though, it's CURLY! I think curls must just take a little longer to make their way out of the scalp. [IMG]

Also, you don't need to do a pony, necessarily. You can get those clips I mentioned and they will hold the hair all on their own. Since Amanda hasn't until recently had enough to "perk up" on top of her head, I would just slip it in her hair. It held great.

Ditto with the small elastic bands and a barette over top or even tie a ribbon if you want to get fancy. My SIL is a hairdresser and gave me about 1000 little silicone elastic bands that you use for doing small braids. They are awesome. Try a salon. They might know where you can buy these. Happy styling.

I do the small ouchless elastic bands, too. Sometimes with a colored plastic barrette. I also found some cute elastics that have curly ribbons attached to them, they look adorable! (I think at Walmart).

I started putting bows in Ally's hair when she was about 10 months old. In the beginning, she only had enough for the tiny whale spout, but she got used to sitting still while I did that. I'd put in the elastic, and then slide one of the bows on alligator clips between her head and the elastic. They stay in really well that way.

Here's a pic of her first spout: http://stasiak.org/0104/pebbles.JPG

I used the tiny ouchless bands in the beginning. You can buy them in a pack of 100 in the kids clothes section of WalMart. They usually have a rack of infant hair accessories.

I got a lot of her bows on ebay. Just search for infant hair bows.

Here's a couple of my favorite websites for bows:
    www.pictureperfecthairbows.com (simple infant bows)
www.all4kylie.com (tiny infant korker bows, sooo cute!)

My only word of caution....you will get addicted to hairbows LOL. Ally's 4 now, and we have enough to put bows on the head of every kid in her preschool class, even the boys [IMG]

I've done bows since the girls were small....One has ALWAYS had enought for at least a whale spout.

I have barrettes w/ bows, soft pony bands, and hadbands. Most from Target or Walmart. I know it says 3 +....but we have never had a problem with them eating them. I take them out if they are napping or out of my sight for a long time Just in case.

I can't STAND in in their faces and love how cute they look....I can't wait for it to be really long enough to 'do'.

My girls usually sit for the hair session. If not, I try again later.

There are pics on the website below if you want to see some of the bows on them in the photo gallery!

Well, I went to CVS today and found the silicone rubber bands and some cute little clips. I was all excited and as soon as we got home, I tried to give Bea a little "whale spout" (never heard that name for it, how cute!). She started crying and ran away. [IMG] So, I put a little clip in Ainsley's hair, then got one on Bea to put her bangs back. She seemed bothered by it and kept batting at it. She also wanted to pull Ainsley's clip out (Ainsley didn't even notice it) so I took it out. I'm so disappointed. I guess I'll just keep trying to get her used to it. It's either pin the bangs back or cut them.

My friend made me some bows on alligator clips with velcro attached to them. They stayed in really well when the girls had very little hair and still stay in best now that its a little thicker. I'm not sure where else you could get them, but maybe search on ebay for velcro and hairbows. We only have a few of them, so other days we use tiny ouchless rubber bands and I stick a bow on top. Mine don't try to eat them. They always have a bow in their hair because we're growing out bangs. They even wake up and ask for "my pretty bow" in the mornings.

I always feel I have to respond when I see these posts. I would stick with just the rubber bands.

My friends' daughter ended up at CHOP to have surgery to have a barette removed from her stomach. It was so ragged that they said if it had moved through her intestines, it would have ripped them up--she was one at the time.

I use the small silicone bands from Target in Chloe's hair. She likes them, because we tell her how cute she is (she is a total ham). My avatar has her in one, and here she is with two.

I love little girls with pony-tails and ribbons, it's just too cute!! TIP: With ribbons around pony tails, to keep from loosing the ribbon, I usually thread it thru the band that way if it comes untied, you don't loose the ribbon completely.

Laugh, I just posted this pic in the bangs thread too...

I can't get anything to stay in Mikayla's hair, mostly because she removes everything I try to put in it. We have had limited success with the cloth headband things.

Don't give up just because she didn't like it this one time. It feels funny to have something in your hair when you're not used to it. If you really want her to grow out bangs, then keep putting the rubber band back in. Eventually it'll be normal to have her 'hair pretties' in and she won't give it a second thought.
