Girls development ?

This is about my oldest DD, Caitlyn. She is 8. Yesterday she said that her "breast" area on one side hurts. If you feel there, it feels like a small mass there. There is not one on the other side and no pain. Do you think she could be developing already. I have heard that most girls develop unevenly.

My first thought was that she that she is starting to develop but now I am wondering. Any thougts? How old were your girls when they started to develop? It has been so long ago that I did that I just don't remember.

 

I was about 11.5. However, I had a friend who did start on one side before the other, as you are describing. If I recall, it was the nipple area that started first.

 

I dont remember exactly... and not to alarm you, but if that was my daughter, I might be concerned that it would be something else. I dont remember it being painful when I did start to get breasts. ?? I dont know. I would say if the pain persists, I would take her to the DR just to check it out.

 

i was in 4th grade, so 9 or 10, and i can remember leaning up against the table and feeling so sore and sensitive for the first time... in the nipple region... i went to the nurse so she could describe to me what i was probably feeling... so embarassing... but i had a friend who had already developed to a size b bra and started her period that year... i didn't start til 8th grade!... and don't worry that this may be a sign of her developing rapidly because even though i felt them growing at such a young age, they definitely took their time :FIFblush: I'm still hoping they someday catch up to the rest of my body... yes, i know i've had 3 kids and it's probably NOT gonna happen, but here's to wishful thinking anyway

 

Thanks for your replies. I will take her to the doctor if it keeps up. I bought her the American Girl book about taking care of your body but we can't find it. I remember it saying that you get sore.

 

I was just looking through that book yesterday at a store I was at and I saw that. I also found this also this. The second article says anywhere between 7-13 you can start getting breast buds.

My oldest DD started when she was 10 - just slightly.

 

My DD started getting breast buds when she was 8, she is 9 now and there are some shirts that she has to wear a bra with or it is obvious.

There is hope!! :laughing: I was an A cup until about 36/37, now I'm a C and a friend that I hadn't seen in years asked me if I'd had an operation. I told her that I had grown them the old fashioned way.

 

I was an early developer, and that is exactly what happened to me. My Mom was so worried that she took me to the doctor. I remember it--it was totally humiliating.

It sounds early, but normal.

 

Thanks everyone. She says that it isn't so tender anymore. I think she goes through stages. She wears a back brace so it covers up that whole area. We will have to let the doctor know when she starts to develop so they can cut the front of the brace down.

I think that is within the normal range but still quite early. Personally, I would call the doc, especially knowing she wears a brace that covers that area. Better safe than sorry. I don't remember ever having any pain so if she is develping, she may need to have that brace adjusted.

I was a late bloomer but my SD is definately an early bloomer she had bad B.O. by 6, started getting boobs she was complaining in the beginning of the summer about her boobs were sore and guess what over the summer she grew, I think it is normal but if you are concerned and it persists I would call her doctor just to be sure.

 

We are taking Caitlyn on 10/24 to get the front of her brace cut out. The doctor there says that with her age, height and history that is most likely what it is.

 

Is your doctor a girl? This can be very embarrasing for girls with boy doctors. I know I'm not "allowed" on here, but I figured I'd sneak on to look.
It might be painful because of the brace. Usually it's not painful, but if it puts a certain pressure on that area, then it might hurt. That's why it didn't hurt for you guys. Because you didn't have a brace that put pressure on your breast area.

 

My oldest is 8 almost 9 and hasn't complained of that yet (but she's a gymnast so it will probably be a while) but many of her friends are and some of the moms have said that they have had to give their dd's ibuprofen bc it hurt when they were getting buds. Also, a friend of mine's dd had a lump on one side where the breast was developing, they were convinced it was something else, demanded an mri....and found out she was developing (and she's 11).

I am SOOO not ready for any of this yet....
