My girls turned 10 mo. on the 14th and one is crawling all over. The other one has always been more layed back and has been fairly content with staying in one place until recently. She will get frustrated as she cannot crawl. She gets on her hands and knees and rocks back and forth, gets from a lying to sitting postion on her own. Rolls all over or will scoot just a little but IS NOT crawling. I feel so sorry for her becasue my DS and her twin will be playing and crawling all over the house and there she sits in the LR by herself. I am starting to get a little worried, should I be? BTW, other DD started crawling about 3 wks ago.

    Thanks!

My boys are 11.5 months old (or 10.5 mos if you adjust for being 5 weeks early) and they just started "kinda" crawling this week. They can each go forward finally and they move their arms the correct way, but they kinda drag their knees even though they are up on all 4's. I wouldn't worry too much - but if it makes you feel better you could always call your Pediatrician or call your local Early Intervention agency. I'm actually having a PT eval done on my boys on 12/30 - just for reassurance that their gross motor skills are fine. :)

It must be hard to have one going all over and one not - I can only imagine how lonely the one who isn't moving must look.

If she is up on all fours and rocking, I would think that she will start to go pretty soon. This seems to be the last step before they are on the go. If you are concerned, call the Ped and I am sure that they can assure you that you dont need to worry. Mine couldnt get from lying to sitting forever. I would say that she is ahead of the game on that one.

At least she is up and rocking on all 4's...shouldn't be long now!!!! My DD (who was full-term) is 9.5 months and still get get from laying to sitting, not rocking on all 4's, but she does scoot across the room on her butt and is starting to pull up (mainly on me b/c she can't crawl to something to pull up onto yet).

Crawling isn't really considered a big milestone, but I can understand your frustartions. Olivia gets so upste b/c she wants to go and tries hard! But, Livi is also 24 lbs., so she's got a lot more junk in the trunk to get off the ground than most 9 month olds...lol!

My DD just started crawling last week and DS was crawling for about a month before that. I wouldn't worry. Sounds like she's close :)

My Ben went from rolling to rocking on all fours to crawling to pulling up and climbing stairs all within a few weeks (right around the 9.5/10 month mark). AJ, on the other hand, has been getting up on all fours and rocking for months. We thought that he would be crawling by 8 months, but he is now 11 and still not doing a real crawl. He did start doing an army-drag crawl around the 10-month mark, and he can really book it! He also gets up on his hands and feet, with his butt way up in the air, and tries to step that way. I did recently make an appointment with his pediatrician (I wasn't really concerned with the movement/crawling, but I was concerned that he wasn't sitting well or pulling up at 11 months). Our pediatrician assured us that many babies never develop a 'normal' crawl, but go straight from rolling/dragging to walking. Our pedi said that we would watch AJ's development closely over the next month, and decide at his first birthday if he needed some early intervention. Of course, in the week following his appointment, he became a very proficient sitter and is getting better at pulling up... So, basically, as long as they are progressing and developing, they might just be following their own curve.

It sounds like she is really close. Our ped said not to worry unless they were not mobile at all by 12 months. One of my DDs crawled at about 10 months and she is just fine. She could actually get from lying to sitting before she could crawl -- she just had very little interest in going anywhere. :D

She sounds like she is close to me. My DS did not crawl until 10 months (after we called EI, worried about his progress, he checked out okay) and he is starting to stand and cruise now.

At 11 months, Josh was still not rolling from his back to his stomach. He would pivet on his stomach, but not get on his knees. My pedi recommended EI and they came out to evaluate him. In order to qualify, he had to be at least 30% delayed. He is 32% or at 7 months. As soon as they came out, less than a week later, he started to roll and get up on to his knees. He still qualifys for EI and they will come out twice a month for an hour each time.

Now Jake is crawling, pulling up and cruising. He's been crawling for over a month.

If you're concerned, talk to your pedi and have EI come out. It does not cost anything for them to be evaluated.
