I was watching a movie, and the nickname of the girl on the movie was "Jersey".
As in she was from New Jersey.

    It has grown on me.

    What do you think?

    Jersey..

It's cute, but it reminds me of a cow... so I'd vote no. that is for a name. A nickname is okay I guess.

I'm from Jersey and love New Jersey but I say no, not for a first name. It's okay for a nick name.

Sorry, my first thought was cow... and my second was about all of the jokes and stereotypes about women from New Jersey.

I think you should use it if you like it. I am so glad I went with the names I chose for my three girls. Names are personal, right?

I think its cute, but I thought cow too.

In the end though its up to you. If I listened to everyones advice, all of my kids names would be different.

I think it is darling, I did not think of cow, still trying to understand why others thought cow. I think it is cute and if you love it go for it and you raise her to love her name and be proud because she is a one of a kind original! I think no matter what your name a mean child is going to find a way to make fun whether you have a common name or not. I was Rebecca from Sunnybrook Farm and it was not done in a nice way, it was relentless teasing. I love that I have an uncommon name!

I agree. We originally weren't going to tell people names of our girls because of dealing with what people were going to say. I had been set on Adeline (Addie) and we were having a hard time picking another girl name. We decided on Kaitlyn, even though I really did not want a name that was super common. Once we did announce the names, the only person who said something was my best friend, about Kaitlyn- she was hoping we'd come up with something more original. I told her that I like the name and it's what I wanted.

I think Jersey is super cute, if it's what you want then like Mum2TwinBoys said, she'll grow up to be proud of her name.

Good luck, let us know what you decide!

I think it is cute :D Do what you want...if we all listened to other people, I am sure everyone would have the most common names ever!

There is a lady who I worked with, her daughter's name is Jersey. All her daughters have unique names and I think they are cute. I did not think of cow because I know someone with the name. If you love it go with it, it is cute.

For twins it could be Jersey and Holstien!
    (sorry I couldn't resist)

For those of you who don't know Jersey is a breed of cows.

I also like it as a nickname, one you'd earn by beeing from Jersey among a bunch of non-jersey people.

    My first thought was "Moo"

Second was all the jokes about New Jersey.

I could see it as a NN if you are from Jersey though. Ultimately use what you love, but it would get a big thumbs down if my DBF ever suggested it. Sorry.

I lived in NJ for several years and nobody ever called me Jersey (even in college). I like the name a lot. Even living across the street from cows as a kid, I didn't think of cow when I heard it. I also think a name needs to sound good with the last name. I really like what PP said about raising her to be proud of her name. So true!
