Gift ideas for 4 year old boy

I am just not very good at buying birthday party gifts for kids I don't know. Birthday party is this weekend. So any ideas would be appreciated.

 

Kid K'nex or Lego would generally be a good fit (and I think they have an age range on them to help you find something that would work well for a 4 year old). Nerf guns are also usually a big hit, though it would help to know the family's feeling about toy guns.

 

My boys turned four in October. What's big here, or still big-dress up, Legos, blocks, magna tiles(those are pricey though and hard to come by), coloring, playdoh, arts/crafts stuff, outdoor toys-balls, chalks, etc. Gft cards to target, toys r us, etc are also great over here. Dinosaurs, pirate stuff as well.

Legos!

 

Duplo legos or regular legos, playdoh, big floor puzzles, games like Candy Land or Chutes & Ladders, small scooter.

 

Lego, matchbox cars, Imaginext stuff, super hero dress up, arts and crafts and with the weather getting better things like a kite or sidewalk chalk.

 

Legos, board games, matchbox cars and any sort of larger truck. My son also loves toy story and star wars stuff.

 

Another vote for Lego.

 

My son likes hot wheels cars and the sets that go with it, books about how things work, wheelies (little wheels with cars pictures in them, u can roll them), puzzles and playmobil toys.

 

You might do some outside/pool toys. My son loved his t-ball set and he loves those water cannons you can get that look like pool noodles buy squirt water. You could do a whole water theme present with a bucket, squirter, water balloons set (saw all of this at walmart when I was looking for easter stuff).

 

My 4 year old is nuts for lego, hot wheels and anything related to super heros .

 

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I ended up having my boys with me when I went shopping and I let them pick out Legos for the birthday boy. Seemed like the top pick from everyones posts. I wasn't sure they could handle the idea of the toys being for someone else but they were actually excited to pick it out for their friend.
