Does anyone have any suggestions for gifts for their 1st birthday? Are there any toys, books, etc. that you highly recommend and can't live without? Or anything that you feel is a waste of money?

    Here are a few:

    1) Baby doll stroller to push (or grocery cart, but my son still loves the stroller better)
    2) Wagon
    3) Outdoor toys (picnic table, climber, sand/water table)

Mine are really into their ball pit, Kangaroo Climber, and small play toys (balls, little people, puzzles, dolls, etc). Books with flaps are a BIG hit, as are those with 'real' pictures in them.

Wagon and push/ride on toys (those were the big hits at our 1 year party).

Mine loved Little People and they the age recommendations on those are 1-5 years so they last a while. Also, they liked flap books and books with buttons that made noise and played songs. Barnes and Noble usually has a great selection of these. They also had the Leap Frog play table and that was a big hit!

My twins got riding cars for their birthday....Lightening McQueen and Dora the Explorer. They love them, and they use them more and more each day.

My boys LOVE LOVE LOVE their FP learning house. It's the one thing they play with every day. It's around $65 (unless you find it on sale) but it's been worth every penny for us. Also, balls..they love to bounce and play with balls.
    Enjoy!

THIS is an understatement in my house, so you KNOW they are big fun!!!

    Ride on toys are cool....

Thank you for all the great suggestions. We do have some of the mentioned toys & books and I certainly agree! My daughter doesn't have any dolls, yet...so I'll start looking around. Any ideas for my son? We do have lots of balls and trucks/cars.

OK, I feel compelled to say that boys can play with dolls and girls can play with balls and trucks. [IMG]

Now that I've got that off my chest...

I got my DDs a shape sorting toy for their first b'day. They still (at 15 months) really have no clue about fitting the shapes through the right holes, but they seem to like the bright colors and they like to take the lid off, dump out all the shapes, then put them all back in the box.

The Put & Peek Birdhouse was also a big hit.

One of the other things they loved was the plastic carrying bag that one of their other toys came in. They don't play much with the toy (it was a soft car with wooden wheels), but they love to put Little People into the bag and carry them around.

Oops, sorry...I didn't mean for it to sound like that. Yes, I do agree with you. In fact, my daughter does play with the trucks, cars, balls, etc. and my son plays with her toys, too. [IMG] I've never heard of The Put and Peek Birdhouse...I'll look into that.
