    Hi,

I posted a few weeks ago about how everyone got rid of their baby items. Most replied using Craig's List. I have sold the smaller items on ebay but now I want to sell the bigger items but my hushand has me freaked out about using Craig's list. Since he is refusing to help me a girlfreind at work said she would ride with me to exchange the product/money.

Now I'm freaked out that he's freaked out...

Please help me put me mind at ease that it I won't end up on CNN for doing this...

How did you make your exchange?

    THanks!

I have never sold anything on CL, but I have purchased. I have met people at their house to pick up items. I have also met people at an agreed upon public location. Gas station, mall, something easy to find. I always went on my own (never with the kids) and didn't have any issues. Most of the hardened criminals aren't looking for baby items...

    Good luck!!

I have sold a ton of stuff on Craigslist and I always make the people come to my house. I have never had a problem. I typically have the stuff ready to go at the front door and the buyers just step in the front door, give me the cash and they get their stuff.

We just something last week on Criag's list and I met the man at Wendy's. I knew there would be people there. Or if it's the weekend and DH is home, we just have people come to the house. But if you are going to make an exchange just do it at a popular place like McDonalds or a strip mall or something, so you know there will be plenty of people around.

    I just wanted to ask..

If your DH is worried about it, why wont he help you?

If I buy things from craigslist, DH gets it for me, to be on the safe side.

If he was so worried, I would imagine he would help you out no?

I never worry about using Craigslist. I do try to be careful in the sense that I make sure to tell DH where I'm going, but otherwise I guess I just trust people. Last night I bought a rug off Craigslist and I even took Amy with me to go look at it and pick it up. It never even occurred to me to suggest meeting in a public place -- not that he could have done that with an 8x10 rug.

We do live in a smaller city with a low crime rate -- I don't know how much of a difference that makes, though...

I usually make sure to have someone here with me when people are coming!

Also....I like the idea of the public meeting!

When I sold my baby carseats, I met the girl at Walgreens. Nice, lit up parking lot... When we sold our Dog Kennel, the guy came to our house (I didn't have a truck) and DH was home with me (not on purpose, just coincedence) the guy never stepped foot inside our house...

I've only ever done those two transactions, but I'm getting ready to sell the rest of my baby stuff as well as our pool table. Everything but the Pool table I can take and meet at a public location (Which I'd rather do anyways, I don't want people knowing where I live and that we have small children.....)

Take what I said though about not wanting people at my house with a grain of salt. We're military, so we're TAUGHT to be overley cautious and to always expect the worst. But that isn't going to keep me from using something like Craigs list, I just find a way to do it SAFELY.

I've bought and sold things on craigslist without any problem. Mostly it will be mothers that you will deal with, so the risk is very low... plus you really shouldn't have to ride if you're selling things, they should come to your house... make sure your dh or your friend is with you if you're worried.

My main issue with craigslist though is that depending on where you are, it's really hard to sell your stuff. I haven't had any luck with strollers, baby tubs, car seats etc... The best option really if there is one around you is to join a mother of multiple club or to look up consignment sales in your area and try to sell at one (it's the season though so you probably should do that very soon if you want to get rid of Fall/Winter stuff).
